Hello,

I have a 2016 Ram sport 5.7 8 speed. 3.92 rear. When downshifting from 2 to 1 there is a delayed bump that occurs. Sometimes worse than others, it can feel like I am being lightly rear ended. I’ve seen a few forums about transmissions/drive shafts. The drive shaft forums were all talking about the 2 piece which I do not have. The dealership did the re learn a few times and changed the valve body but nothing has worked. Now all of a sudden they claim that’s how it should drive. Any remedies or feedback on this?

Thanks!

How slow are you driving to get the transmission to downshift to first?
It's probably the torque converter unlocking.

It’s when I come to a stop. Could be, but it shouldn’t be lunging forward that hard.

First gear is a short gear, coupled with 3.92 rear makes it an even shorter gear. It's a similar sensation to shifting a manual transmission into first when you are coming to a stop, you are going to get a bit of a lurching feeling. Totally normal, unless you are saying it shifts from 2-1 then does another lunging motion.

Pull your rear driveshaft and lube the splines inside the accordian boot.

stock 5.7 with 6.4l cam and MDS delete
Just a thought but you didn't mention it or how many miles/ kilometers is on the truck.
Check your u-joints and the pinion yolk on the rear end.
Could be jumping a tooth if the bearings are real worn.

Yeah most times it actually does a second lunge. Like a slightly hard downshift, come to a complete stop and then a few seconds later it will lunge forward. I will check out the driveshaft one of these upcoming weekends. Thanks for the input

Search using search here for what people are lubing the spline with - I don't remember whether it is just marine grease or a high lithium grease or some moly - but it has been discussed several times on here.
Give you a feeling like someone bumped you gently in the rear when you come to a stop.

2016 100,000 but a recent purchase so I don't have a history to work with. My truck does the same when coming to a stop but seems to mostly do it in eco mode or at least it's most noticable then. Also seems to be more noticeable in cooker weather when the truck hasn't quite warmed up yet. I guess once spring hits I'll look into this driveshat thing
