I have 23000 miles on my 2017 3500. Since new its made a noise which sounds allot like the transmission slipping. (can't be it's an aisin, no body has problems with the aisin) It was only doing it at speed between 35 and 40 and only while pulling heavy loads. (36' 5th wheel).
After a month sitting at the dodge dealership they replaced the transmission and they had to also replace the abs control module (nothing to do with the noise. warning message for traction/abs)
I pick the truck up and guess what...now it makes that noise every time between 35-40 without a load. It's a very slight noise, only last a second, but sounds like slippage.
Has anyone else run into this issue with the 3500 aisin transmission??

Try posting over on the cummins forum, a lot more HD trucks over there.

With that said I can't remember anyone post with an issue like that before?

Maybe it’s not the transmition, hard to see how they throw a brand new one in and it’s doing the same thing except now all the time. Have you checked the fluid?

Relatively few Asin trannys out there and almost no problems from what I've read around here. Given what's taken place, it almost seems the tranny can be ruled out as the problem. I'm very curious as to how/why the dealer and FCA agreed to replace the tranny with just a noise (that it seems wasn't the tranny after all). In my experience with FCA if a truck moves and isn't on fire you can't anything done. When you say a noise, can you also feel it? In my younger/poorer days I drove several vehicles with failing trannys. I don't recall hearing it as much as I could just feel it.

You have tons of powertrain warranty left so really all you can do is drive it and wait for something to blow up, I suppose.

I have the same truck and the opposite same problem.
At 35-40 I get that slip feeling with no load. I took to the dealer and they said they did some update for the shift pattern. It seemed to not slip for a few weeks after they did it, but back to slipping again.

I say "opposite" because mine does it with no load. If I hook up my cargo trailer and now have somewhat of a load, it seems to shift at 35-40 with barely any slip.

I tow a 15000 lb fifth wheel and so far havent had any issues. My only issue with the aisin transmission, is when the truck sets for several days w/o out use, it wont move for a minute or two when put in gear the next time I use it.

these trucks learn your driving style , and apply as much fuel saving and reliability algorithms as possible to said data set.
you may be getting the best mileage, it may be reliable, but it drives, sounds, and makes you feel like its ****.

every oil change, i reset the transmission control module to relearn....now just waiting for my Hemifever tune.
im sure thats all the dealer did.
unless their is a service bulletin, they dont have any updates to apply to a transmission.

cummins 6.7 HO Aisin transmission
Unfortunately it seems the Aisin transmission in the Rams have a lot of problems. The transmission slips, disengages, goes to neutral or however you want to describe it, it stops moving the vehicle forward at times leaving you in a dangerous situation.
I have almost been run over a couple of times by pulling out into traffic and the Aisin transmission decides to go to neutral while the engine revs to 2500 rpm before it slams into gear. I also have a problem of stopping on a hill, when you attempt to continue up the hill sometimes the truck will roll backwards before it slams into gear and the engine dies. Complete loss of brakes and steering, talk about dangerous. While driving in mountainous terrain at slow speed (5 to 10 mph) the transmission seems to shift into neutral, engine will rev up to 2000 to 2500 rpm for a few seconds and then slam into gear. This happens all the time. I can't even get out of my driveway without this happening. I have had my truck to the dealer several times with no fix.
The last time I had the truck at the dealer FCA said it was "working as designed" and I was told that was all they could do for it. If it is "working as designed" then they have a FLAW in the design that needs to be fixed. This is a safety issue.
My truck is barely one year old with 11000 miles (most of which were put on it because they told me I would have to drive it a lot of miles so it would "learn" and it has been reprogrammed several times), the truck is still under warranty and they will not fix it! I did a lot of research before buying to find the truck that had the best towing performance, the Ram 3500 looked like it but the transmission has been a huge disappointment. Even more frustrating is trying to get FCA to honor their warranty! If you search other Ram forums you will see that a lot of other people are having this same issue.
