my sons 2017 limited is not blowing out heat like i think it should. 142k on the truck. we had it out today, 24 degree weather. no grill cover/bra. he let it warm up for 15 minutes or so, drove 10 miles, sat running in his driveway for a half hour or so, drove another 10 miles and the air blowing out of the vent was luke warm at best. i asked him about it, he says thats just the way they are, and he has two or three friends that have or know someone with the same truck and they say thats how their's are too. could this be a heater core issue? or something else we might need to look at? thanks--Brian

My 17 Sport has not issue with heat. The auto climate control is great. My Ram has 35 thousand plus miles. The heat defrosts the windscreen quickly

142,000 miles on a 3 year old truck? How is that possible? Lol! My 11 has 53,000.

is the engine still nice and quiet? Like everyone else, I’d like to believe the rumor that FCA upgraded lifters around 2017.

oh, that other thing.....your thermostat is stuck open. Pretty cheap fix.

Or, your engine coolant is low - causing an air pocket and poor heat response.

thanks for the thermostat suggestion...that did not even cross my mind, but that's where we'll start!

@tammybrian2 I'm guessing it's a Cummins? Unless your working the engine like towing a load, put the winter front on. Diesel don't make heat unless your working them, they actually cool off while idling.

The same way someone like VernDiesel has over 700K miles on a '14, their truck gets put to work.

To solve your heat issue, I suggest the following:
  1. Ensure coolant temp is around 200F
    1. If not, you have a coolant problem (low coolant, air pocket, stuck t-stat)
  2. If coolant temp is around 200F, then I would look for a "blend" door problem
    1. Blend doors are electric flaps that control how hot or cold the air is in your dash ductwork

My bad. I usually just assume it's a 1500, unless someone says differently.

cummins. OAT coolant level is good, there's an 'OAT' sticker on the recovery tank, orange in color. he decided to have the coolant replaced at a shop and have them throw in the new thermostat while there at it. i'll let ya know how it turns out.

Send it in to get looked at, my 2013 with nearly 4x the mileage gets HOT, the heater is beautiful. At full heat it kinda burns when it’s on you for too long.

To reset all HVAC doors travels: With blower on low, Press and hold the recirc button for ten seconds, release the button and then press it again and hold until the recirc light flashes. the doors will all go through thier travels and reprogram the actuators.

this totally worked for my 2017 power wagon, the only part that got me stumped, is it only work for about 20 mins, then went back to Luke warm air blowing out.. I have already had a coolant flush, and that work for a few hours..

what am I missing,.
