I just bought a 2017 Ram. I assumed that the Bluetooth device connection would work just the same as my Ford sync but so far, it doesn't and it's frustrating.

In my Ford if I was listening to something on my phone, I could just get out and it would automatically pause and when I got in again it would reconnect and start playing.

In the Ram, every time I get back into the truck it defaults to the radio. Which is not only annoying that I have to switch it to media but typically I'm listening to a podcast that has to be turned up louder than I would listen to the radio, so I get blasted when I start the truck.

I don't even care if it starts to play automatically or not, is there a way to get it to default to media and not blast me with the radio when I get in the truck?

I did some searching and couldn't find anything on this. If there is another thread please link me to it.

Don't really care as much about the auto play. I just want it to stay on media so I don't get blasted with the radio when I get in the truck. Every vehicle I have had to this point stays on whatever setting you have it when you turn the vehicle off. The Ram goes right to the radio every time.. Hopefully there is a way to change this.

my 5.0 in my 14 and my 13 both will restart on whatever you left it on, if i leave it on bluetooth, when i get back in the truck it will be back on bluetooth, never had it change sources, sounds like a setting or maybe a glitch in the radio

I'll look through settings again, still getting use to the system. I didn't see anything the first time.

The 5.0 radio sucks for trying to find anything in the options and settings. That said, it should stay on whatever mode you leave it in. There's probably a setting you're not finding. It took me forever to figure out how to get to the USB settings for shuffle. I hate the 5.0. The third upgrade I did to my truck was to pull that POS out and put in an 8.4. It still irritates me that I couldn't just order an 8.4 to begin with.... oh, no, not on a tradesmen! God forbid you want a manual T-case and manual seats.

I've looked through it again and can't find anything. Nothing on the web either, it seams like there are others with the issue. I bought an express because I don't care about a lot of the other features. I only want to be able to listen to my podcasts when I drive. Why any vehicle would not default to the last setting is beyond me and super annoying for a brand new vehicle. I hope I can find a solution.

My 2017 5.0 connects better than my fiances 2013 Ford Escape. With hers we have to tell it to connect to bluetooth. With my truck it auto connects when I get in. But I listen to sat radio 98% of the time and Apple music using media player the rest of the time so the default doesnt bother me.

My 5.0 system used to retain memory of the last thing I had on it, but 6 months ago it stopped doing that. I did try a soft reboot and that didn't help. It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it at this point.

The blue tooth does connect to the first cell phone I have on my list every restart without fail.

Hmm.. well maybe I'm just spoiled from my last vehicle and I'll get use to it. I have to try and remember to turn my volume down every time I shut the truck off.

OKExpress,

I thought of one possibility. Is your phone the only one paired to the radio, and if not, is it set as primary? Even if it's set as primary, it might be connecting momentarily to the other phone at key off or key on and thus resetting the play mode. Just a thought.

Do you mean like thermostat climate control? No. It has a hot to cold knob and fan speed knob. I actually prefer it over the climate control of my ford but the best one was my 04 sierra that had dual hot/cold knobs for the wife..

My phone is the only one paired to the radio and it is set to primary.

Try turning the media output up on your phone, so that way you don't have to turn the radio up as loud. That's what I do with mine.

Check the BT settings on your phone. It should be setup automatically pair.

No issue pairing. The phone pairs with in seconds of putting the key in but it still plays the radio. It will remember if it is on Satellite Radio, FM or AM but it will not stay on media. Does anyone know if there is a silent sat. radio station? That might be half ass solution.

That would be great solution if I didn't have an iPhone. Looking on the web it seems to be a common apple issue that the Bluetooth is abnormally low. These are first world problems but very annoying on a brand new truck.

adjust your phone with the volume on the side of the phone, i do it all the time on mine instead of using the knob on the trucks radio, i have an i-phone as well
