Hey guys,

What will I need to do this upgrade in my 2017 SLT?
Front axle,
Front driveshaft,
Transfer case,
New rear driveshaft,
Will the same brakes work and is the transfer case electronic? I'm asking do I need an electronic selector to switch to 4 low, high, etc?

IMHO, you’d be better off to sell the 2x4 and buy a 4x4. Even the motor mounts are different between 2wd and 4wd.

Along with everything you mentioned, you’d need to swap the 2wd coil buckets for strut mounts(2wd uses coil spring and shock, 4wd uses a strut assembly.).

Not saying it can’t be done, but I’d suggest you do a lot more research before trying to tackle it.

Sell it and buy a 4x4. I don't know why you would even think about doing this. So many reasons not to.

If you're coming here to try and figure something like this out, safe bet you haven't done anything this advanced to a vehicle that advanced. This is not a project you wanna jump into with a rolling computer this new.

Computer and wiring differences would be a major challenge as well.

Unless this is in regards to a wrecked 2017 that you are frankensteining, I'd embrace the 4x2 or take advantage of the ridiculous used vehicle values these days and put it towards a 4x4.

If you have your mind made up and are set on converting your current 4x2 to a 4x4 then my suggestion would be to locate a donor vehicle of the same year and then rob all of the necessary parts from it.

I would also do as much research as I possibly could to make sure you know exactly what parts are needed. The mechanical side is the easy part. I'm not sure what electronics would be needed without doing some research of my own.

As said above, there are a lot of electronic related items that would be addressed. Without looking at a wiring harness I would suspect that the transfer case and 4wd shifter are intertwined with a bunch of other electronics and signals going to various places. Not like it's a simply on/off switch anymore. You will most likely also need to reflash the ECM and BCM, and possibly re-pin or add wires to them.

It'd be easier for him to find a wrecked 4X4 that only needs a cab and various body panels, and put his cab and body panels on it,he's going to need a 4X4 frame anyways, lol
