Well...Wish I had good news. After all this work...No change. Truck still has a surging/shuddering condition. Exactly like before...Only difference is now the rear differential is whining. Sounds like when they put it back together they didn't shim it properly

Also, when I took the truck for its first test drive, I lost both rear hub caps.....One was found and returned by a fellow following me. The dealer replaced the other one. They obviously were not installed properly.

Not sure what my next course of action is....I guess back to the dealer... Ugh!

The saga continues!!!.....After 5 weeks in service, hub caps falling off etc......The truck is still "shuddering" at all speeds, all road surface conditions. Much more with a load like pulling my camping trailer. Going down hill, with transmission in neutral it still does it. So it isn't engine surging or transmission slipping. Something mechanical in the drivetrain / suspension.........(I wonder if it is something so simple like bad shock absorbers.....)

After all the work the dealer did, and a few hundred miles self testing everything I could think of, I decide IT MUST BE THE TIRES or WHEELS. I had all the tires rebalanced when this whole thing started. Maybne my tire dealers balance machine is off or can't balance big tires like this (BTW, these are stock size tires and no lift kit or other modification)
So I decide to install Centermatic Balance Rings on all four tires. My friends in the long haul trucking industry swear by them for balancing big tires. $200 for four.
I order them and they show up in a couple days. Break out the jacks and the air wrench to have at it......
Hmmmm...WTF...My truck now has Firestone Snow Tires on it! And they are half worn out. When I brought it in it had Michelin hiway tires with less than 10,000 miles on them!
No wonder the truck is howling on the highway. These Firestones are half worn out snow tires.....!!!
And the shuddering is still there even with the balance rings.
Back to the dealer....They are going to get me four new tires or try to find mine.

Today I'm taking a ride with some upper service rep fellow so I can show him exactly what is shuddering with my truck.....

The good news (there is ALWAYS good news) is now we have ruled out 100% that the issue is caused by tires or wheels!

I just took a ride with the service rep. He confirmed the issue. We both think it is suspension related. But it could be clutch slippage that isn't quite enough to throw a code or is happening somewhere that isn't monitored by the on-board diagnostics.
They are ordering new tires and then we will proceed once they are installed.

Wow I hope they correct the problem soon. In my opinion the lemon law might be your next option.

I'd rather not go in that direction as I've outfitted this truck exactly like I want it. GPS, Etrack in bed, running boards, etc....

Last week the dealer took my truck in and installed four brand new Michlin LXT tires to replace the used snow tires they accidently installed from someone elses truck. Still doing the studdering thing. New tires, Centerline wheel balancers....and still doing iots dance. So it isn't wheels or tires.....Three sets of tires and two sets of wheels and still doing it.

After this Corona thing it will go back in and see if they can find something else.

Wait...the dealer installed someone elses tires and wheels on your truck?! And then you didnt even realize it until after you drove around for a while?! Wtf!!!?

The shuddering dilemma is a known issue. I have read of many people with this issue. Unfortunately, there has been no real fix that I am aware of, or a determined cause. My truck has done it since brand new. Its not a horrible shudder, but its there. Get it sometimes when the truck is lugging...high speed, low speed, high gear low gear, doesn't matter.

My gut instinct says its an electrical/sensor issue with the trans. I did have the recall done to the trans a few years back, but it didnt change a thing with the shudder.

Didn't realize I had the wrong tires until I was installing Centerline Wheel Balance Rings. The wheels were the same so unless you looked at the tires hard you wouldn't notice it. My shudder is always there and very bad when towing my 8000 pound trtailer. But it didn't do it for the first 30,000 miles. It started nearly all at once on a trip pulling the trailer in Maine.

Last Wednesday I took the truck to a different dealer. Hoping another set of eyes might find out what is wrong. Today is Monday and so far have not heard a thing.

Stay Tuned!

Dealers is still waiting for a part. Some kind of harmonic balancer for the drive shaft. ????

I need to ca them next week for an update. This week makes it one year that this vibration has been driving me nuts.

I have a slight shudder, and am starting with tires first. I have a forced road balance tomorrow. Hope no one has to go through what you've gone through to figure this out. Keep us posted.

Yup...three sets of tires and two sets of wheels and no improvement. Added balance rings and did nothing. I'm totally convinced it is in the transmission.......

I am too.

Sure, tires can definitely cause vibrations and issues. But there are a boatload of these era 6.4 tranny’s that have certainly been plagued with a vibration issue. I just havnt heard of a definite fix for it.

I'm just starting this journey...

18' 6.4 2500 with 42k - all the sudden started to shudder and vibrate. Wasn't doing anything, drove fine when I parked it... the next day I backed out of my driveway and it started when I went into forward. Sure felt like the transmission to me.

Dealer ruled out the transmission and thinks its in the driveline somewhere.

Death Wobble...........Front steering components need bracing. Typical issue with RAMs with front axles. There are several kits out there for sale to remedy this issue.

Quoting myself...

Just got a call from the dealer - they are replacing the drive shaft. At least its a warranty item.

Did the dealer say what was wrong with the driveshaft?
