They don't get in the way at all. I used gorilla tape too hold it up, not wanting to put holes in dash. When my bumper comes it has 4 cubes I'm going to use the home link buttons for them

You should look at the AEV switch pod like I have, it just bolts on top of the dash. Just remove that tray and if uses that space. It’s a great location.
