Does anyone know if there is OEM tailgate assist for 2013 -2018?
I was really impressed by the '21 assist hoping there's one like it
for the '13-'18 trucks. thanks

The new 5th gen damper is built into the tailgate hinge itself. 5th gen was the first to have this. The 4th gen or classic body has to have an aftermarket. I have the DZ version.

That looks like it could be a worthwhile conversion.

Have had mine for over 5 years and not a single issue. Best $20 I’ve spent on my Ram, and the most useful.

Was my first mod for Maxine. Ordered it b4 she'd even been home a full day.
DeeZee is NOT the only brand that sells the tail gate assist, but it is the most popular. Search the googly rain forests.

Ram had an assist to lighten the weight of the tailgate way back around 2016

It was a sprung steel shaped rod that went into the tailgate hinge.
It did help when raising the tailgate

Found a better explanation:

The lift assist they're talking about is the torsion rods that run through the bottom of the tailgate. They spring load as you let it down so it's easier to close it.

I don't know what year it was, but Ram used to show a child opening the tailgate without the tailgate dropping on her head, that ad did not last long.
Some Dad probably tried it with their child & had the child stand under it & i bet he collected $$$

It's called a torsion spring and Ford Superduty had it atleast around 2017 to assist with the weight of the goofy ladder that was integrated. I want to say when I had my panel off I thought I saw a torsion rod in my 2018 RAM tailgate but I can not remember since that was nearly 3 years ago when I had it apart.

I noticed the F150s have one that mounts in the fender behind/below the tail light. The bad thing about that is all the moisture, salt, and dirt that your back tire kicks up right into it.

I don't know how much space there is between the rear wheel fender well & the tail light.

In front of the rear fender well & the front of the bed, there is a fairly large space

If there is half that much room at the rear, Ram could put a flap, (similar to the one that is used to access the backside of the headlight)
Behind the flap, they could install a small motorized winch with a cable the size of the E-Brake cable & cable casing, that would reach back to a point similar where the after market tailgate cables currently are.

E-brake cables don't use much room

I was not saying that one of us should do that modification

I meant that Ram should do it as an option
I bet it would sell

Good install video, like most others, but it was poor "little Timmy" that really got me. Skip to just b4 the 3 minute mark for the good part.
