How important is the Battery Tray Spacer? I just purchased and had someone install a new battery for one of my RAM 1500 Trucks. When the worker took the old battery out and went to get a new battery I noticed that the existing Battery Tray Spacer was broken off and was against the back of the battery tray. I saw where it had broken off and I put the piece 'loose' where it should be when attached.

After he had installed the new battery, I checked to make sure that he didn't put the new battery on top of that piece. It is laying loose (not under the battery) at about the position that it should be if it was not broken.

I am guessing that it has been broken for the life of the current battery. Just leave it like it is for now? How important is it?

Thanks In Advance.

If you leave that spacer removed, you can put a bigger H8 battery in place of the H7. If it's broke i wouldn't worry to much about it

Is the battery secure? if not the movement of being jostled around could decrease the life of the battery. Secondly the battery cables may loosen.

The big battery hold down bracket on the side facing the engine is snug and in place.

You are all good ,just be certain the tie down bracket is properly secured.

Next replacement step up a size as it will now fit.

Just repeating what has already been said.

I was thinking that in the bottom of the battery tray, there was a battery monitor of some kind, maybe Temperature sensor ??

BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR The battery temperature sensor is located under the vehicle battery and is attached (snapped into) a mounting hole on battery tray

BUT ..,
On Newer 4th Gen Rams, they may have moved it up to one of the battery posts

more info

IBS ...

It’s called an intelligent battery sensor. It's used to monitor current, voltage and temperature.

It’s used to monitor and control the charging system as well as creates historical data to give an overall health level of the battery.
