2018 Sport console usb issue

After buying a new cable from Best Buy to connect my phone for Android Auto, I still noticed charge time differences when I would plug my phone in after work(usually 82-86% battery), so I brought home this dongle that I use at work to test usb ports for voltage, that you can also see amperage. I think the dongle effed up my usb port, because now I cannot connect to Android Auto, and my phone shows a low charging plug connected. Any ideas?

First thought is that your port was already problematic before the dongle so if it did change anything it was possible that was coincidence and not the unit itself. It could be the USB hub, or could even be the phone's port, or a combination of the two and the truck port just is more sensitive now so it only appears there.

Also, software updates to phones can alter the charging speed so that a phone at such a high battery availability (80+%) would only draw small amounts of current and charge slowly. Apple has it called Optimized Battery Charging and actually learns your charging habits. For example if you regularly get in your truck and battery is generally above 80% and you keep it plugged in for a decent amount of time the phone knows not to draw too much power and to slowly charge. This helps extend battery life but can seem like a problem if not used to it. Other manufacturers do this and software updates and phone learning can change the characteristics so it doesn't always happen the same.

@tron67j somehow it fixed itself. When we got in the truck this morning to go to FL2k, I tried plugging it in, and everything worked ok.
