So we are upgrading from a 35ft 11k lb travel trailer and are looking at purchasing a 39ft Toy hauler with weight specs of 17000lb GVWR and 13500lb dry weight and a hitch weight of 2900lbs. My truck has the 4.10 gears and air bags already. My question is can I safely tow this rig? I called my Ram dealership and they said I would have no problem pulling 19k with the truck but I tend not to believe them and everything I have looked up online has different towing capacities on every site I looked at. Before I spend 60k on this rig I just want to get some reaffirmation that I’ll be able to pull it! We aren’t looking on going long hauls or anything…furthest trip would probably be a couple hundred miles. Thanks for the help!

No, the dealer is an idiot. You will be way over your cargo cap, with a pin weight well north of 3000#. Even the truck I have has the max cargo and tow capacities I can only tow 15,500# and you won't have the cargo cap I have at 3900#. I would not, however, tow more than about 12,000# to maintain a 20% safety margin.

I see 3 possible issues so far "hitch weight of 2900lbs"
1. over payload with the 2900lb hitch weight
2. tires - are your current tires 'E' load?
3. Is that hitch weight empty or fully loaded?

You have a 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi. At 39ft and a dry weight of 13500 lbs., you are in 3500/3500 dually territory to be on the safe side.

Yep, don’t even think about it. I had a 2017 3/4 ton 6.4 Hemi. Had a 13,000 gross weight 5th wheel. It did it. But going down hills puckered up the butt cheeks. I was ************. If you were to pull that, get into a wreck and killed somebody, being over weight, it would be your fault regardless if it was the other persons fault. Glad you decided not to get it. I’ve change both trucks and 5th wheel. Love my 1 ton with a 6.4.

2500 6.4L Hemi 4.10's 'Off-Road'
Not certain on the 2019 but my 2018 with 4.10's is rated at 15,600 lbs. With 3.73's i think it is about 13,000 lbs. But with that pin weight you are looking at a 3500 and probably a dually.
If you have 4.10's I'd stay under 15,000 lbs gross loaded weight and probably closer to 14,000 lbs.
