Is there a way to permanently disable the MDS via the computer without having to tear the head open and replace the lifters?

Yes, with a good tuner or shop( a local shop told me) but why? If you have a 19 and you are running 91 octane (mid grade) then then the MDS will not bother you but help you gpm. ( highly debated) My wife and I separately ran a tank of gas with and without it on for a full tank and she got 321 with it off and 372 miles with in on. I got 307 with it off and 360 with it on with mixed driving. And on a long haul (3k trip) I saw 16 mpg going (off) and 18 mpg (on) returning calculating by hand.

MDS is what causes the rollers to jam up over time and grind the cam shaft lobs down. I’d rather eat some possible mpg but have an engine which lasts a few hundred thousand miles than more mpg but a bad motor at 120k miles.

So back in the day we would run the vehicles WOT to “blow out the carbon”. It is more “fun” to drive it like you stole it then to disable the mds. For me, I clean out the carbon at least once a month.

Who likes math?? So the number given 120k till engine failure. 50 mpg more per tank. 310 per tank is 387 fill ups. 333 fill ups if you get the extra 50 miles per tank. So 54 tanks of gas less. So the more fuel you burn the more you fuel pump works and injectors and so on plus the cost of the 54 tanks of gas. About $3,700 in gas. Plus the other parts that go out prematurely. Net-net Zero! My opinion on the matter and risk.
But my truck will be for sale at 60k so I’m not in it for the long haul. That is why I stopped using synthetic oil. I don’t need the motor to last 100k. But you are so I did the math for you. Hope it helps even though it is not the original question.

edit: I am running recommend synthetic 0w40 Pennzoil. I was running Royal purple. The original post was supposed to read: I stopped using RP synthetic oil.

I’m planning on keeping the rig for the long haul, 300k or so miles. I 4wheel it on adventures and trips pretty much weekly. In about 20k miles I am going to replace the track bar, tie rod, ball joints, and drag link with high quality heavy duty aftermarket ones. This truck will probably explore most of North America including Alaska and well into Northern Canada. At some point I may ship it to Australia for a coast to coast exploration trip.

Well your not along. As many PW owners want the ability to keep mds off permanently without manually doing it on each startup.
You will find this question answered in the Heavy Duty section. A lot of smart guys that really know the 6.4 in that section. Good luck. And Happy 4wheellin’

...Plus not many of us buy a truck new and keep it to 120k. And if you run you truck like @IRSmart then you don’t make 50k!!! Lol j/k
And you didn’t even see my video from yesterday getting buried in the mud up past my tires lol

Hopefully there is an easy solution to getting your MDS disconnected. But, if there isn’t, I wouldn’t break into the motor. Ram expects that engine to last 300,000 miles too. Being the MDS isn’t necessary, I’m sure Ram has more confidence in the MDS than most of us. I plan to run my truck a long time too and I’m letting the MDS do it’s thing for now. Doubt my truck will visit all the cool sights like your truck!

Will these work with the 19+? I’m told there is a bypass required?
You will possibly need a bypass cable. The 1500's do but not exactly sure on the 2500
