    Hi all

My 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Express V6 quad cab 4x4 is in the shop for my issues with it pulling left. The dealership provided me a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic SLT Crew Cab HEMI 4x4 to use while my truck is gone.

I work in sales and travel a lot to the same destinations. As a result, today I took a 119 mile round trip in the loaner truck that I have done recently in my own truck.

The trip is roughly 90% highway to 10% stop and go. My driving style is to drive the truck gently, and on the highway I use cruise control set at 71 mph. My truck had 2400 miles on the odometer last trip, the loaner had 1600.

While I know the loaner Crew Cab is slightly heavier than my Express, my truck has the 20s while the loaner has the 17s. Lower rolling resistance offsets some additional weight.

In my truck overall I get 23.5 mpg for this round trip. In the HEMI truck, I got 18.6. Both of them are as measured by the trip meter on the truck, but I can share that i have done the math on my truck and found the meter to be very accurate.

Overall, I am happy with my choice of the V6 since most of my trips are unloaded with just me in the cab. Since I get paid for mileage, the higher fuel economy results in more going toward payment and less towards fuel.

I thought this info might help someone shopping and comparing these two models. If I missed sharing something that is pertinent, please ask.

    Mike

For what is worth my 18 hemi 4x4 cc started of in the 18-20 range. Muffler delete, vararam and 42k miles later I consistently see 24mpg per tank average. Daily commute is 150 miles round trip and only about max of 10 of those aren't highway. My average speed tracking trip time and distance is usually about 63-65.

I live in Quebec (Canada) and I drive a 2019 Classic SXT V6 4x4 (3.55) and my father-in-law drive a 2017 Express Hemi 4x4 (3.92) and we did a round trip from Quebec to Boston this summer together, next to each other on the highway at the exact same speed for the entire trip, his truck averaged 13L/100 KM (18 MPG) and mine averaged 9.5L/100 KM (25 MPG) for the exact same trip. We have both the 20 inch package and the same cab configuration. Mine is 2000 KM old (not even completed the break in period!) and his around 50,000 KM. Two identical trucks except for the engine.

So this is what I call a VERY real life experience!

With my own truck configuration and the 3.55 rear axle, my RAM V6 is capable of towing 7450 pounds and when you are not towing anything (which is 95% of the time in my case), the benefit is a very decent gas mileage, pretty much the same as any minivan or mid-size SUV. In fact my previous vehicle was a 2016 Grand Caravan and my RAM 1500 V6 doesn't take more gas that the minivan or not much noticeable (like a 2-3 less MPG difference).
