Hi all,

I have a 2019 Ram 2500 gas engine that runs great, but has had leaks every 2 winters from the roof. I ended up using tons of silicone caulk all the way around the back windshield and the front windshield, as well as the center rear light (shark fin)--which, as it turned out, wasn't screwed on all the way. I also noticed very minimal glue holding down the rubber gasket at the edge of the roof, which I glued more thoroughly in the back. This caulking has solved the problem until two days ago, when, once again, water started dripping from the driver's side hand grip at the left corner of the windshield. The truck has 35,300 miles on it. Is it out of warranty?

Should I take it to the dealer to get this addressed? My own mechanic mentioned some time ago that maybe the windshield needed to be reset. I'm hoping not. I've been loathe to take it to the local dealer, since I'm afraid they will screw something else up that's currently working.

Any advice would be great.

I think your warranty is expired unless you have a Maxcare service contract. All you can do is start pulling back the trim and try and backtrace the water to see where it is originating from.

If you have a sunroof and are getting a leak from the A-pillar, you likely have a blocked drain tube from the sunroof. If you have roof clearance lights, check those.

That is all I can think of.

Thank you! We've repeatedly checked the drain tube from the sunroof---one time, it was blocked, but otherwise, it's been clear. I wasn't sure if the warranty was a "whichever comes first" 3 years or 36,000 miles; I don't think I got a Maxcare service contract, as the dealer I bought from was far away and a little sketch.

Are you in Canada or California ?

Did you buy your vehicle NEW ?

I know in California, that the Dealerships Finance Officer writes up the Owners/ Sales Contract & any Warranties.

Believe it or not, He or She has at least one phone number

If you do have a warranty, find out

If you do Not have a warranty, take your truck to a AUTO GLASS Shop & talk to them about what they think about window leaks.

Even the Dealership will take vehicles to Glass Shops, they will not touch it, BUT they may pay for all or part of it, depending on whether there is a Warranty or not.

Most dealerships will not even do Body Work, they Farm it out

If you have a Sun Roof, it will have 2 drains & if you park near a tree, you may need to clear the drains once or twice a year

Personally, i would never order a vehicle of any US Brand with a factory Sun Roof,
The After Market installed Sun Roofs, are so much better, in every way.

Thanks! I do have a sunroof, and the drains get cleaned by my regular mechanic with regular service. I added more silicone caulk to that corner of the windshield and where it abuts the black rubber gasket/trim. With the coming rain, we shall see if that was enough. I appreciate the advice re: the glass shop. Thank you!

Quit f’ing around by adding caulk to your windshield. That’s gonna make it harder to clean out. Take it to a body shop that specializes in glass replacement. They will pull the glass, clean it out and apply new sealer. Then it’s fixed right and you have a warranty.

Op, I hope my suggestion didn’t sound too crabby. My son in law did the exact same thing to his windshield. Applied silicone caulk to try to fix a leak. Multiple times! Didn’t work. I had him take it to a glass replacement body shop. Job done in 90 minutes. Hardest part they said was cleaning out the caulk!
