hello,

thinking of getting a new 2500 without the air suspension since its on the dealers lot and ready for sale. how do you like yours on the OEM springs??

my last RAM was a 2017 sport 1500 and the OEM springs were garbage! while it had a 1,310lb load rating, if you put even half that in the bed it'd squat horribly! I kinda fixed this by installing TUF springs that were 50% stronger and 0.75" spacers but towing things at the 10,900lb max was still bad! hell my current 2019 Chevy ZR2 with leaf springs and only an 1,100lb load rating does better than the RAM did with or without the TUF springs! of course I can't tow hardly anything at only 5,000lb!

im guessing the 2500 can tow and haul a lot more without squatting so much? or do you still need up upgrade the springs, install air bags or wait and get the truck with the OEM air bags?

thanks

I had an 09 1500 and it squatted really bad also. Now I got a 19 2500 and it is a lot stiffer and rides stiffer too. Which it is an HD truck. It doesn’t squat near as bad as a 1500. Unless your just set on one with air suspension, I would save the money and get the one without. Same goes for the diesel.

Mines good. My trailer with 1100lb levels my truck with out the distribution bars. It would squat less if that weight was in the bed.

good to know. I assumed they'd have better springs, surprised RAM gets away with those numbers on the 1500's. worst case im sure TUF springs makes an upgrade if need be.

wait, what's your setup? 1,100 or 11,000? and what weight would you put in the bed?

I pull a 8200lb camper it’s right at 1050 on the hitch weight fully loaded. The truck sits level before I even put the WD bars on(the bars bring the front down some and they act as my anti sway) I also usually carry fire wood and other random of stuff in the bed as well. I would have no problems throwing 2500lbs in the bed with out airbags. Weight behind the axle puts more compression on the springs than directly over it due to leverage.

I don’t have air bags, payload is 3037 pounds, tow capacity is 17,031 pounds. I tow a travel trailer that is around 9,000 pounds, truck handles it with ease.

most campers are 10-15% if yours is a travel trailer, mine has bedroom up front. At 9900 empty your probably close to 10900 loaded up depending on your water. You’ll be between 1090-1635 but realistically 1300-1400. On a fifth wheel you would be probably 22-2400 if you have a gas 2500 you’ll still be in your limits for either.

I had to install airbags, but that's likely due to the fact that I put a 2" leveling kit on the front. The leveling kit was needed for the 1000# v-plow to not scrape the corners on driveway entrances, and it looks better imo.
I towed my 5w without the airbags and it squatted pretty good, but again, it was starting from nearly level. The empty hitch weight is 1600# and I'm not sure what it was loaded but I'm guessing comfortably 2000#. Personally, I like my trucks leveled and I also like the airbags, but on a stock truck you should be fine. I also added airbags on my 2016 Ram 1500 but that was because it needed them while stock.

What airbags did you install?

so it looks like the 2020 isn't going to happen. we aren't coming to a deal so I started looking at some used ones. I did find a 2018, 6.4, 4.10, no air, loaded out the way I really like. should I be worried about that older transmission? and also, it doesn't have tow hooks. why can I only see 2 holes when the tow hooks use 4?

right now we are living in it so im sure we have WAY to much weight! the bedrooms full of stuff so im sure that doesn't help. once we get the house dried in ill start unloading the trailer and getting it down. it says on the door don't load with more than 2200lbs so it can carry quite a bit.

The 8 speed is leaps and bounds better especially towing it’s always in the right gear to keep the rpm. My dad has a 18 and he pulls a toy hauler weighing 8500 or so and it does fine on flat ground he’s never had it in the mountains. What did you use to pull your camper with 10k plus is quite the trailer for a gasser. Not that a 6.4 won’t do it you just don’t want to be hitting the mountains often. If your looking older maybe you could find a Cummins.
