The 8 speed is leaps and bounds better especially towing it’s always in the right gear to keep the rpm. My dad has a 18 and he pulls a toy hauler weighing 8500 or so and it does fine on flat ground he’s never had it in the mountains. What did you use to pull your camper with 10k plus is quite the trailer for a gasser. Not that a 6.4 won’t do it you just don’t want to be hitting the mountains often. If your looking older maybe you could find a Cummins.

I haven't yet. it was delivered by the dealer. I've towed heavier with my 17 1500 but it was real short trips from my house.

I thought about it but repair cost and stuff kept popping up for them. I know its a good motor, but im not sure about them. never owned a diesel.

If you go with the 2018 I’d want a sizable discount as the 6-speed is older tech, going to depreciate faster, etc...

The tow hook delete isn’t a big deal as they can be added. I’d be curious WHY they were omitted as you have to choose to add or omit depending on what you order.

I’m bag-less but don’t have a leveling kit but have the Snow Chief and Off-road packages which sets the truck up a bit higher than stock 4x4 height.

Keep us posted...

when I was building them online the hooks weren't 100%. this is a snow prep group but not a snow plow group so no hooks added. they have the OEM window sticker so I saw it all. as for discount, retail is like $45,600 right now. high trade is $41,300 and asking is $40,990 so that's not a bad asking being under one of the trade values. we'll see I guess.

For a 2018 2500 tradesman 4x4? Don’t walk away, run away...

For a 2020/2021 that’s an OK deal. I paid $41,*** out the door for my 2020. Granted this was in April 2020.

2018 2500 4x4 6.4 with 3.73 here. Perfect truck, 6 speed works great through mountains. You're not going to get a discount because it has a 6 speed, it is a great transmission to start and these times are seeing trucks going for a premium as you have already run in to. A truck is a tool, buy the one that fits your job, you can plug your VIN into Mopar site and know if it will work. You won't need bags if you aren't overweight; a WDH will properly load weight on axles. Good luck.

6.7 HO Diesel
I just purchased a Ram 3500 Mega Cab HO Diesel. I upgraded from a 2015 2500 Mega Cab Diesel with the air suspension. Had to upgrade due to 5th wheel pin weight. Cat Scaled the truck/trailer and discovered that I had #3,150 pin weight and the 2500 was rated at #1,950. My air suspension was indicating overload. I tried both Timbrens and SumSprings, worked for towing, but the ride was really rough when not towing. The air suspension was great when not towing a heavy load. I'd go with the non air suspension vehicle because if you are pulling a heavy load, you can still add air bags. You cannot add airbags with the air suspension.

Maybe, but I ordered exactly what I wanted.

how was the ordering experience..were they negotiable any on the price. I am wanting a new 6.4 hemi 2500 laramie and literally every 2500 laramie on dealer lots around here is dsl stickering for low 70's and selling for low 60's..so have been wondering about ordering..have never bought one that way.

I had a 2017 1500 Bighorn 5.7 and towing my 9000 pound TT with WD bars was a bit tense. After getting my 2020 2500 4x4 Cummins it was night and day difference. I usually forget the trailer is there and really appreciate the exhaust break and all it's advantages. If you plan to tow on any regular basis get the Cummins. We're just about to upgrade to a 5th wheel so we'll see how that goes.

The process was easy and straight forward and my dealer gave me all the discounts available if I had bought one off the lot.
