Hello,

It's been a while since posting, but I have noticed that my coolant temps seem unusually high at idle. During the winter, idle temps would creep up to 224F before the fan would start to rev up. Now that it is warming up, I am seeing the coolant temp increase to 230F before the fan kicks in. This morning I was sitting for a mere 5 minutes and it hit 230F. When the fan does run, it seems to only drop the temp a few degrees, and the fan runs non stop until I start moving again. Once I start rolling down the road, the temp will lower to 185F to 205F. What gives? I have checked the coolant reservoir and it is at the right level, and the fan does work. It's 62F outside right now and can't imagine the 100 degree weather during the summer and what temps the truck will reach. Is it possible that the thermostat is failing on me? Or am just paranoid and everyone is seeing similar temps?Truck.jpg

That’s pretty warm. My 2019 classic nicer goes over about 206. Bad thermostat???

Those temps seem inline with my truck. Once it's hot, the coolant will cycle around 204 C to 226-ish and then fan kicks in and brings it back down again. Not sure of the exact numbers since it hasn't had a chance to warm up much this winter.

Definitely sounds like thermostat. However, for some reason the water pump can have issue and is pumping insufficiently at idle but fine while driving. Though it would seem to be less logical answer.

Well, she's sitting at the dealer and will keep everyone posted. As the ambient temps in my area have been rising, the truck appears to keep getting hotter at idle. This morning while showing the service advisor the temp peaked at 240 degrees in a matter of 5 or so minutes.

Did you ever learn anymore about the temp. I noted my 2019 seems to run near this temp about 230 ish when idle in 60-80 degree weather. But once rolling less than 210. So makes you wonder. cooling should be better at idle

Yep. Turns out I had a bad water pump that was slowly leaking over time. Shaft seal was where it was leaking from.
