Hey everyone, so im here about my 2020 ram with now 31,000kms which I only recently got about 6 months ago as I have nowhere else to turn. How ever to make a long story short, one month ago I came home from work and coming off the highway As I was turning right the vehicle went left (complete steering loss (malfunction) its lucky it happened where it did. All i hit was a median at about 40-50km curbing the front & back left tires completely while hitting pylons (on a angle) lodging one underneath the frame. Either way within that month the vehicle had been scanned and they found problems with the steering rack. Code continued to come up and they were address partly. A new part was ordered ($4,000.00 cad) covered thankfully and put in a few days ago but thats it. Nothing else was inspected. Paper work below… so when I took it for a spin in the dealership lot (Galt Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram) the vehicle had major dead zones and pulls to the left. Also some weird odours and stiffness in the steering. So i asked them “why when I make a half right turn do my wheels barley move etc? Needing extra turn just to make a slight movement happen yet turning to the left has no problems and seems to be ok aside the stiffness. Why does it feel like somethings way off with my breaks? There answer was “the paper shows its aligned. Maybe take it some where else and someone else can see what we cant?” Keeping in mind this is where I bought it and its under warranty + extended. So I called mopar & they said “they spoke with these people & they did all they can do and its safe to drive”. I mentioned it was not and they are all knowingly allowing a customer to leave like this” & they responded “ we suggest another dealership”. So I've tried 2, I explained it all but all Im getting is being ignored (Lol) so what Im wondering is does anyone have any advice or any idea on they would do in my situation given rams from 2013-2019 seem to have rack problems with much history & recalls where as the 2020’s & above dont seem to have any? Also why will no one address the vehicle or issues? Am I crazy or are these dealers just simply crooks? Below are photos of what happened and there so apparent workmanship which seems to be missing inspections of the tie rods and other issues, personally checking if the breaks got damage? But no, I honestly felt lucky they even checked the rack. So again what would
You do if this were you?
(All opinions & advice welcome)
Thank you in advance.

Call local dept of transport and ask for recomendation for a safety inspection and go from there
A GM or Ford shop will give you the best report well trying to bash competition

If you feel it's still not right, you have to keep on it. Go back and have the service manager at the dealership that did the repairs ride with you and show then the problem/issue.

I don't believe the electric steering racks have had high failure rates in the 13-19 Rams, at least AFAIK. Unfortunately any part can fail at any time on our vehicles.

Perhaps @RamCares could help.

who did the repairs ? who test drove it after the repairs ? Did they test it on the major highway ? or just around the parking lot?

If you feel that it is not right, go above the shop manager.
a test drive after alignment, does not take care of the ORIGINAL reason that you lost control.

If they turn you away, then go PUBLIC, newspapers, etc.

Repairs were done by dealership. Nothing else was done. I mentioned and showed the issues while recording for documentation. I went for a small drive with the current mechanic who was new from another city & his initial response was to “I would take it some where else to see if they're is a bent tie rod or something they cant see” with that being said this dealership does not have a good reputation. I spoke to Mopar again & there only recommendation was to take it to another dealer which most claim they cant help. Its kind of funny. So I figure all I can do is follow the above advice and find another place (third party) that can at least inspect it & hope for the best. If there are issues then its at least proof if needed.

The thing is, you mentioned that you are still under Extended warranty

You would have to have RAM send you to one of the RAM Approved repair shops, if you want the warranty to cover it

Take it to another Ram dealer, the new rack (EPS) needs to be programed where the end stops are from left/right steering angles, the shop that installed the rack probable just installed it and called it a day, or there is a problem with the new rack, any codes?

Welcome to the Ram Forum!!!

If it did have "a bent tie rod", it would worry me if they didn't check for that in the first place. or even the second place when you brought it back.

Hopefully it is something like a programming issue as @Dodge 1500 4X4 mentioned. Keep on it, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
