My first truck but I'm surprised they limited a Hemi to 105mph !
What tuning device would unlock the potential the Hemi has ?

I have the Diablo Sport Tuner. Got rid of the speed limiter, MDS delete, bumped my red line up to 6000 RPM. I got an 87 tune and 93 tune through Hemifever tuning. I don't know my top speed now, it only registers 120 MPH. Does that easily!

They limit it to 105 mph due to the tire rating in most cases.
The crap I would hear if people knew the slick bias ply tires I would run on as a young and dumb teenager. Most were so slick you could see the air in them and the speeds I drove back then daily was burying the speedometer. I guess my Guardian Angel was younger and could fly faster and keep up with me back then. LOL, The old saying "God watches out for children, drunks and fools! I was living proof of that!

I don't think it's as simple as it was with mine but you can google Hemifever tuner and he will be able to give you more info than I possibly could.

Are you prepared to buy an unlocked PCM (after getting speed rated tires I would hope) just to get your speed limiter lifted LMAO? I mean, the 2004 Ram SRT-10 set a record doing 154mph with 505hp.....you have 395hp....how fast are you trying or think you're actually gonna go lol?

If it won't do what the speedometer says...... That's a wasted speedometer! It's not like back in the day when you had a low gear so you could snap your head off from dead stop to 100, we now have 6 and 8 gears to get top end too! As for speed rated tires I'm sure they're covering their b u t t, (funny I can't say b u t t) if you could see the crappy tires we ran when we were younger, God knows I wish we had the tires back then that we have today, 105 MPH would have been grandma's car even back then. Personally I'm gonna use it, otherwise why have it! Lol

Pretty sure my Cuda wouldn't do the 160 mph on the speedometer in stock form, most likely not in modified form either.

Imagine the law suits if they allowed the truck to do 120 mph on 112 mph rated tires and a tire pops - lawyers would have a field day.

You're right, that's what I meant about covering their b u t t s. Pretty sad that I could sue somebody because I chose to go 120 MPH tho. Some times we need to be responsible for our own choices! Lol

Does anyone know if there was a MPH rating in the late '60s early '70s on tires and what it was, I didn't know then and I didn't care. Just curious how much above it I went.

I don't know if they did speed tests on tires back in the day.

The big thing that limited top speed on the old cars was the rear end lifting off of the ground at high speed - bad things happened after that. A lot of cars tended to become a bit floaty after 120 mph or so.
I don't know a 440 Cuda 4 speed with 3.92's was a pretty formidable car - slightly tune it and add minor bolt on and it became a handful pretty quickly.
400+ hp with drum brakes , manual steering and a loose suspension and it's amazing that many of us survived them, lol

Cars today are much more balanced vs. the old cars if you consider handling and straight line performance.
I would much rather go 120 mph in today's challenger vs. a early 70's challenger :)

Its the 21st century man! The world absolved itself of any and all responsibility in the year 2000. It is ALWAYS someone elses fault for the dumb S___ people do nowadays. People are trading Freedom for "safety" at an alarming rate.

I was unaware of the limiter, could have sworn my 2016 got up to about 110 MPH on I-20 before I realized how fast I was going and slowed down when a dude was rolling beside me in a Charger. What purpose would you have to go over 105 MPH anyways?

I had a '99 V-Tec Honda Accord, 4-cylinder, in high school that would run 130mph. That car was tough as nails.

My friend had a V6 Mustang that would cut off at 105mph and he used to get p_ssed off that I could always out run him.

Yes, most manufactures limit speed> Your stock rims, brakes, rotors, tires, suspensions, etc etc, not made to run those speeds. Why be responsible when U can spill hot coffee, see where that went. My Honda MC will do 124.9 before my limiter hits, not sure I am that brave. I've been in chases over 135 MPH in a Crown Vic and them Vics were like the Old LTD's, to run those high speeds why like a floating front end.

I had a walmart refuse to sell me a tire of a lower speed rating than the other tires on my wife's Mazda 3 when we blew one on the interstate.
Stock had an H rated tire and they wouldn't put on a T or S speed rated.
