2022 Camping season...preps...thoughts?

Congrats, hope you have a great time. Check out YouTube, there are plenty of videos about campground etiquette and unwritten rules. The more you know the better time everyone will have.

I guess I'm the odd ball in this group. While I love the out of the way places I actually like campgrounds. I'm a people person and I like meeting new campers. Most of them are considerate but there is always that one person or that one group. You have to take the good with the bad.

I also enjoy campgrounds for same reason, but they (campgrounds) have to be spaced out and have some character. My family does the state park in Bethany Beach Delaware every summer for two weeks. It is like camping in a parking lot. Every one crammed together, not a tree in sight, and just not enjoyable. We did a Yogi Bear in SW Virginia last year, was nice with mountains, a river, and a tin of nature. People having fun but pretty much respectful of each other. Until the weekend when the newbies show up, you can just tell, and they act stupid. Even had one of our chairs stolen by group next door. Whatcha gonna' do?

Thankfully theft is one thing I haven't had to deal with yet. I usually leave my chairs out at night but folded up. I have one of those stainless Camco Olympian grills and that gets packed up at night and put in the truck bed. That's the main reason I got a tonneau cover. Out of sight and out of mind.

We had ours all folded up and slid under camper. I heard voices early AM, thought someone was just rambling around and got turned around. Definitely a good idea with your grill, too nice of a unit to leave out and tempt someone.

I still can't believe they just took your chair when you can easily look over and see that it's yours. What excuse did they give when you asked for it back?

I may put the chairs in the bed this year. We have a couple of high back folding camping chairs with the hard arms. We got them at Sam's. They weren't that expensive. But for Christmas I bought my wife a camping rocking chair. This I will put away.

I still can't believe they just took your chair when you can easily look over and see that it's yours. What excuse did they give when you asked for it back?

Those rocking chairs are really nice as long as the ground is level. We have 2 Ozark trail ones. Our campsite isn't very even so we just use them as regular chairs. My step dad almost had a heart attack when he was visiting at our camper. Uneven ground, a few beers, and rocking too far back. It was pretty funny too watch. They do work perfect at home around our fire pit but that's smoothed out.

if your in bear country I wouldn't leave my grill out. I had one walk up on the camper one evening. Another tip when it comes to critters or thieves at night- put your keys next to the bed incase you need to set off the vehicle alarm. Needed that one night to ward off some uninvited guests.

I generally try to make it so we don’t cook and sleep at the same spot but yes you have to be bear smart grizzly bears don’t care and in Canada no guns allowed

I buy a permit for a rifle when I cross the Canadian border. Never had a problem. Sometimes the border folks ask me why I have the gun. I tell them for protection. They ask me from what and I tell them bears.

We have a cross country trip coming up in the end of March, leaving Seattle going to NC, I'm all book up and mostly at the KOA's campgrounds all the way there.
