2022 RAM 2500 cell phone keeps switching audio back and forth between truck and phone

After no issues with cell phone for 2 years, now when I make or receive a call the sound comes from the truck as it is set to do, then after 10 seconds or so it transfers sound to the phone. Then sometime during the call it will suddenly transfer back to the truck again. I called the dealership and service asked if I had a 5G phone, which I do. She said the trucks are not programmed to handle 5G. If that is the case, why has it worked for 2 years?? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

My 2020 2500 does that too sense I bought it in 2022.

my guess would be that if it has worked for 2 years it is probably because 2 years ago there was very little 5g to be had and you were most likely operating on 4g. now that there is more availability of 5g, the truck struggles to get a signal it can handle. just a WAG

I was wondering if you found a solution for your problem? I just bought my 2024 Ram 2500 Power Wagon about 2 months ago. The phone connection worked great at first, now it is doing what yours is doing. It keeps switching from radio to phone during my calls. it's really crappy!! I wanted to take it into the dealership, but the dealerships here is Charleston SC wants your vehicle for 4 days to diagnose the problem and them try and fix it. I can't just let them have my truck for 4 days just to diagnose. They don't give loaner cars out neither. I also have an issue of my truck sitting an inch lower on the driver side no matter what the fuel level is, and they wanted it for 4 days to diagnose and I couldn't just give my truck up for that long. These dealership sux around Charleston SC. But just wanted to see if you found a fix for the phone connection issue. Thanks!

Sorry, but I still have this issue. I have to turn off bluetooth when I use the phone in the truck.

As a test, why not try disabling the 5G service on the phone?

If your truck's Bluetooth then stays connected, you have your answer that the 5G service isn't compatible. If it still doesn't work, there's a Bluetooth fault to sort out.

The 5G sites are few and far between in the rural area that I live so, I keep the 5G service on my phone disabled.

I can't seem to find an option to turn off 5G. I don't have the screen that you showed in my mobile connections. I'll have to do some research on my model number.

If the phone call is not dropping then it has nothing to do with 5G service. That shouldn't cause the call audio to switch between the phone and radio over Bluetooth.

@TexasRacer are you using just the Bluetooth or do you have the phone connected via AndroidAuto?

How long have you had your phone and did you get it from a large company?
If all the videos show a screen that you can't locate, you may have to call the place you bought the phone.

Sometimes cell phone companies bugger up the Android phones by locking out certain options.


Are you able to see and adjust the Network Mode setting?

If the phone call is not dropping then it has nothing to do with 5G service. That shouldn't cause the call audio to switch between the phone and radio over Bluetooth.

I agree and that's why I suggested disabling the 5G, to prove that.

AA should be irrelevant during a call session but, that could be another variable to consider.

Of course AA is relevant, it uses the Bluetooth to connect/maintain the connection between the radio and phone. It's possible the connection is dropping and reconnecting causing the phone to resort to a default phone output.
I'd try unpairing all the connections from the phone the radio. Clear the cache and storage for AndroidAuto, cycle power on the phone, check for any updates on the apps and phone then repair with the radio.

Mine may have started doing this yesterday but not sure. Sirius started cutting out and then when it came back my iphone on the nav screen would cut out. Them all would be good again until it happened again.
Ive been on 5g most of the time in the past and this is the first time it cut out.
Just changed phone settings as described above and ill see how it acts today.

I wasn't aware that the OP was using AA but maybe, you've seen this scenario often enough to know from the description that the AA BT connection is the likely culprit.

Not to steal the thread, but my nav didnt miss a beat yesterday for about 3 hours after i switched to LTE. Sirius didn’t either.
Then i switched back to 5G and for almost ann hour no problems either.
This is with a new phone cord.
So today ill use the old cord and see what happens. I hate to use the word anomaly but its possible it was that day.
