Are you talking about the Buchanan SF? I used to hunt the SF around Cowans Gap a bit. Cowans Gap SP is nice but if you want to boondock, take Aughwick Rd. S out of Cowans Gap and look for Tower Rd. on your left after climbing a decent grade (before you intersect rt 30) . Its a gravel road and dead ends at a circle. There is an awesome overlook there and lots of open space suitable for a camper. If you really want to rough it, park at the first gate on your left as you go down Tower Rd. and walk back about a 1/2 mile to the trail shelter. The shelter also has an outhouse, spring and pond
Yes. Buchanan State Forest. We are in the Sideling Hill Division. That would be the Bear Valley Division that you were in.Screenshot_20230711-200317.png

You have to camp in a designated site with a vehicle.

But, we also backpack...so we rough it...and you can camp almost anywhere with your gear on your back!

I have two camping weekends in a row coming up. This weekend is Carlisle All Chrysler Nationals. I'll be staying at Western Village RV Park. My brother and his step son will be coming with me. I really can't wait. I've been watching the weather closely. Looks like a hot weekend with a slight chance of rain.

Then next weekend another camping trip to our usual CG. Just the wife and I. All I have to do is finish up the work day. Tomorrow is going to be spent cleaning the truck for the show. I get to try out my new foam cannon.
We decided to skip Chrysler this year...going to trucks for sure though.

Spent a week driveway camping in AR getting some family time and cousin time for the kids, then a week camping in middle WI about 2 hours north of the house for the 4th at a really nice campground. It was pretty rough sitting by the pool for a few days with a bartender nearby. Kids made friends with the next campground over and turns out the kids there go to the same school we're moving to. Small world I guess.

Nice awning.
Who makes it?

No Camping trips, recently. To darn busy.
Did take the camper out, about 120 miles or so, and set it up for my Wife.

Wife, our Daughter, neighbor and & her Daughter,
are going to use it, as a Base of Operations, for Quilt Shop "Hopping".
Yeah, I know, but it really is a "Rock Star Thing" for Quilters.

Quilting Ladies are even Weirder than you thought.

Their stated "Goal" is to visit as many Quilt Shops, as possible, each day.
Sounds like Pure Torture, to me, but they love it.

I came back just to visit the camping thread. Sold our fifth wheel and 2500 May 1st after almost 3 years of full time RV-ing, it was time. My intent was to buy an old Chevy truck but instead got a 67 ElCamino. 350/TH350 that I can actually work on :) Anyway, looks like some great camping going on. Everyone be safe out there!IMG_8697.png

Next up we may have another quick Missouri trip with the tent, and then we have a couple weeks in the UP with the whole family using our travel trailer.
Take plenty of mosquito spray to the UP!

So, I camped at my first festival. It was very neat being surrounded by "overlanders" who had more money in their wheels and tires and lights than I have in all my stuff combined.

They were blown away by me sleeping on a. Air mattress in the bed!

I didn't take any pics. But my friend did a YouTube video of a trail ride I lead through the areas I camp near home.

Check it out...

Last week we did the Lancaster, PA trip. If you don't know, the area is covered with Amish and horse down buggies with the by-product of the horse on the road.
On the way to White Oak Campground while approaching a single lane bridge (I wasn't aware of until last seconds) I had to get on the brakes to avoid a car that felt he had right of way. Would you believe the dang truck slid in horse manure and I dam near clipped the car! There was shiett all up in my wheel wells of the truck and splattered on the front of the 5er. By the time I got set up it was already drawing flies. Good times.
Grabbed a few shots of the site, neighboring town, and the campground using the drone.

Unfortunate this happened down in the low lands. Just wait til you get to the mountains and the Mennonites who are buying up all the land are doing this on the narrow, steep, windy mountain roads...such a great time trying to stop or accelerate away from their ****tin horses

We stayed at Starlite in Lancaster a couple of months ago. Those hills were fun but the truck hauled the trailer up and down them without a problem. Thankfully I didn't hit any horse manure and the only one lane bridge I had to cross was clear at the time.

We usually go to the Lancaster / New Holland KOA. There's a bakery right across the street you can walk to. Great donuts and the best apple fritters I've had since my grandmother passed.
