Finally got the new wheels and tires mounted! Amp terrain grippers 305/70r18 on helos, I forget the actually model designation, but they are 0 offset. As you can see from the pics, they poke out about an inch, not bad to me. No rubbing at all so far. The ride is fantastic, feels way more sturdy and planted, yet softer over bumps compared to the stock firebricks. The tires are supposed to be as close to 35 as they come, but when I put them alongside the stocks, they were maybe an inch taller, maybe more like a 34. Over all I'm really satisfied so far. Looks great and pretty glad I gave these relatively unheard of Amp tires a shot.

You will like the tires, AMP has done a good job of putting out a cheaper economical line of tires that actually lasts, I switched to them from Cooper and have been happy.

A quick update but long overdue. I measured the tires and they are right at 34 inches on the dot after a couple thousand miles. I don’t think I already would have lost half an inch of tread so maybe the size listing was a little off

Not really part of my “build” but I finally put my tow hooks back on after they were STOLEN. Mopar hardware was too ridiculously expensive, north of $200, so I found some hardware sitting around my motor pool made for armored track vehicles. Probably an upgrade, as far as strength goes.

Had to ditch the AMPs. First the manufacturer defect debacle, then one little trip on some desert trails and a branch punctured all the way through the sidewall. I lost confidence in their quality and reliability. Switched to cooper st maxx 295/70r18. They look slightly smaller, they don’t stick out as much, but way quieter and can actually be inflated to the required pressure so my dash isn’t going off all the time. An expensive lesson to learn

Even though mine were on a 2500 4x2, I ran a set of the same Cooper tires on my last truck and was shocked at how much the ride improved over the factor Firestones. Even at full rated psi if needed while hauling heavy, the ride quality was vastly improved and handling actually felt nimble for a 3/4 ton truck.

Finally changed the oil to redline. Only drive to work so far but already noticeably smoother. Or is that placebo effect? Maybe it’s just me but it even seems like it shifts better, as if I changed the tranny oil lol but yea I hope it continues to feel this good. Redline may have earned a loyal customer!
