You should have got the Flowmaster direct fit replacement muffler. It's $16 more than your magnaflow and has no drone ever, even when MDS kicks in.

Which muffler is this? The HD50? I was considering the 3.5" in / 3.5" out unit on the Flowmaster website before I got the Mufflex. We'll see how the Mufflex does while towing.....my wife's take will be interesting with our TT behind it.

makes me feel a little better when it MAY possibly be to loud for some people. after all .... I had a short cherry bomb on a 1992 explorer and that thing was drony as hell and I liked it. the mufflex is such an simple install I may just roll the dice on it vs trying to find someone that can work on my truck for a reasonable price. places in my town seem expensive.

thanks for all the comments guys.

No problem. I think you may like the Mufflex set-up based on your comments.

Replacement mufflers/exhausts are always a gamble. Just roll the dice.

BTW - I had a shop install mine as they said they could bolt it on in a half hour while I waited. After they were done the owner told me it was the toughest bolt on muffler they had ever done. Was a real ***** to get the stock can off he said.

But the direct fit is only for the 1500s. My bad.

BUT.. (question)

the offset distance on the mufflers inlet and outlet may be the same on the HD trucks stock muffler as it is on the Flowmaster 50HD. so all you may need is a straight pipe extension instead of doing any bending

is this correct?

Just slightly concerned that it may not be loud enough. i can always remove the resonator

Go original 40 series. That's what I put on mine and it's loud. I was disappointed at first, but it got louder. It will set off car alarms out in the open when driving by.

I have 2017 6.4 I may put a magna flow or flow master on latter but has anyone cut the resontor off with the stock muffler, I hate the looks not to mention it hangs down and is begging to be hung on something. Just do not want the truck to sound like crap or have a drone inside. Thanks

I had a 2500 6.4. I had a new system put on that included dual flow masters, an x pipe and all 3" exhaust pipe. It is loud and has a deep rumble even on idol. I loved it. I would highly recommend. Prior to the flow master I had a magnaflow system and I was severely disappointed with it. The magnaflow sounded better than stock but was still lacking in the testicular fortitude dept.

Did you run just a regular flowmaster 50 series or is there a specific part # and I also heard that you tend to lose power with a dual exhaust, notice any differences?

20190303_140956.jpg 20190303_141009.jpg 20190303_175116.jpg 20190303_175121.jpg figured I'd revive and old thread rather than start a new one since there's plenty of exhaust threads already.

Had a Mufflex/magnaflow on the truck since new. the drone at 1200-1500 rpm under load has always gotten on my nerves. Wasn't a big fan of the sound either.

After waiting years for Corsa to do something, I decided to go back to stock. but a co worker said to try a Jones JT3535XL. For $80, I was willing. all stainless steel and seems well made. a lot lighter than the magnaflow can and a bit longer.

Had to cut up the mufflex and use the rear portion of the pipe (see second pic). Other than that, was pretty simple slip on. the ends of the JT are 3.5" ID so that made it very easy.

the sound is just a bit louder but cleaner in my opinion. More to my liking than the mufflex/magnaflow. the 1200-1500 rpm drone is gone but the volume of the exhaust is still there, not necessarily in a good way but not terrible either. Using the remote start, the cold start bark of the exhaust is no louder than the mufflex set up. will be leaving it on for now and put a few thousand miles on the truck to let the exhaust 'season' itself.

Just thought I'd share as another non-expensive exhaust option.
