What is the deal with the confusion on 4th gen 2500 front axle nut size? You cant make heads or tails on what is the correct size. It varies from 34mm up to 44mm or 1-5/8 up to 1-11/16. My god it will make your head spin with all the different sizes. How is this even possible to have so many different answers? I can see a couple if different aftermarket axles are being used but from the factory what is the correct size? Im asking this because I have to buy a single socket to fit this nut but don't want to get into the middle of it and have the wrong socket.

I just went and checked my 16 2500 and 34mm was a little loose. I couldn't find my 33mm. 1 and 5/16 fit really well.

You’re the man! I appreciate you taking the time to do that. Thank you! It’s just crazy the different sizes you see people saying that it is.

No problem! According to what I see online 1-5/16 and 34mm are the same size. My 34mm socket is about 15 years old so maybe it's a little wore out from use. Yeah I've read quite a few different things online about all the different sizes. I have no clue what that's all about.

Yeah strange for sure but hopefully the size you gave me will be correct because thats what I’m picking up. Eventually I will just pick up a big set so I’m covered but not happening at the moment. They are not cheap.

Yeah the good sets aren't cheap. I think harbor freight has a bigger socket set for not too much but that's usually hit or miss with their quality. Hopefully 34mm or 1 5/16 works for you.

Well the 1-5/16 works perfect but come to find out I have a bad upper ball joint and not hub bearing. I just misdiagnosed the issue. Went to change it out but found no play in bearing and no issues but the upper ball joint has movement. The good thing is that I need to pull the hub anyway to get to the ball joint so all is not lost. Just didn’t need the hub I bought.

Good and yet kind of a bummer. I'm glad that was the right size socket for you.

theres not a bunch of different size nuts. ive never had to take it off but its probly 34mm (or there abouts) like somebody already mention. a ase size may fit slightly tighter but ive not seen anything but metric on these trucks. engine oil drain bolt is 13mm but even a new socket is a bit loose. 1/2" fits nearly exact but the bolt is metric

Every factory bolt on these trucks is technically metric, but there are several bolt head sizes in which metric and standard are really close to being the same and will work. 1" = 25.4 mm. So for the above 13 mm oil drain bolt an 1/2" socket = 12.7 mm. In most cases you can't notice a difference of 0.3 mm which is 0.01" (1 hundredth of an inch)
The 34 mm sockets is 1.339", with a 1-5/16" socket is 33.34 mm
