Had somebody come to me with a Comp 266 cam (218/226 114) in their 2012 Ram. It will need a converter for drag strip results. I'm not a huge fan of such a big cam but it showed a descent result for its supporting mods.

Mods : 266 cam, K&N CAI, Flowmaster muffler, 180 stat

I believe it says 396/375 but it's blurry as hell.

Looks like 367/375

Yes, 367/375. And it really carries out the peak numbers pretty good. That's the power levels these are showing with every possible bolt on mod using long tubes.

Good numbers, but considering the differences in dyno's, and no before numbers to go off of it's hard to say what the difference is, but non the less with not having hardly any supporting mods those are very decent numbers IMO. Tell him to get to a track. Dyno's can be very misleading to a trucks ability to make it down a 1/4

since its a mostly stock truck, we have a really good idea what stock trucks put down. This is far above stock truck dyno's. He ran a 13.9 with a tune and CAI. I believe his plans are to add a converter and long tube headers and go back on his dr's.

Agreed! Those numbers are right in line with mine at the time of install. Putting in a new TC this fall to see if that helps my developed dip. Longtubes, gears.

Yes, dyno's are very controlled environment but when my truck hooks on the street, it has no problem walking away from the 8speed Ram.

Just know those are great numbers lol mine dyno'd low at 330HP or somewhere around there with full bolt-ons, gears, converter, and tune but it also dyno'd low at around 270hp stock. Get the converter and logtubes in/on and get that truck to the track!

I'm really starting to take a hard look at the 266, is there drivability issues for extreme cold climates?

That's why I look at dyno's as a tuning tool and nothing else. Your truck hauls ass and there are many with full bolt on's that have been in the 360-380 range on stock motor. The variations are so large from one dyno to the next it's ridiculous . You may dyno 330 on one and go hit another and be clear up over 370.

Hell, my 03 with 50 less HP stock than a 4th gen dyno's 323rwhp with just long tubes, no cats, intake and a Diablo canned tune. And only ran 9.09 with 392's at 5000 pounds. I don't believe for a second that your 4th gen is only 10-15 more horse than my 03 was at that time Ethan. I believe your truck is easily in the 370-380 range. I want to see you cam yours soon. Should be nasty

Yep, same here...just didn't want to make it seem like I was taking away from the post. I absolutely can't wait for all these cammed 4th gen Rams to start making it to the track this fall/winter!

Yeah, you're right, I'm sure mine should dyno higher. I did it on the same dyno in roughly the same weather....although both were low I was happy to see a 60rwhp increase(+or- how much ever you want to) from bolt-ons, gears, converter, and tune.

I had a nightmare of a time with tuning and then trans issues after I did cam and BV heads on my 3rd gen so I'm watching closely how all these cammed 4th gens turn out. Seeing progress in the Ram tuning for cams gets me pretty damn excited lol

Although I'm impressed with the dyno numbers, I'm guarded opmistic. What I'm hoping to see is a dyno result after about a 1000miles of street driving. From my personal experience with drivability issues at that power level, the tweaking that is gonna result in power losses. Hunting idle, stalling, engine stopping while driving, etc. It's easy to loss hp/Tq with some small adjustments.

With that being said, I am very hopeful Sean, Jay, and all the other tuners will invest the time and effort in R&D. I really believe that being able to tune intake runners will add the power and even when the low pressure wave returns to the exhaust valve event will help.

Although vvt system is simple mechanically, it's a well engineered balanced system that gives us the best of 3 worlds. Low end torque, high end hp, and good gas mileage. We've changed this balance, and in some cases, robbed ourselves of power.
