2nd gen to 4th gen bumper swap

ive seen plenty of people without the sport package convert their 2nd gens to run a 4th gen bumper. but will this work with my sport package ram? the grilles are a little bigger and rounder at the bottom, the headlights are different and mount different, and the bumpers are WAY diferent and mount WAY different. any help would be appreciated! im sure one of the pre-fab conversion kits wouldnt work but i could probably make one up if the 4th gen bumper would work with my grille.

I know there's a step by step by a guy who did this exact thing, but unsure if he had a sport..I'm kinda thinking he didn't. I'm sure one of the guys here can find the thread on here for you though.

The 4G bumper has a dip down in the bumper that clears the 2G grill.
Honestly, it doesn't line up very well. With some custom metal work it'd look awesome.
Without it, it just kinda works.

They few I've seen had a Sport grill, and it looked REALLY close right in the middle and kinda ****** out by the headlights.

does anyone have a link to a truck with the 4th gen conversion along with a sport grille? i would like to see how it looks! ive seen a few with non-sport grilles that look ok.

I've never seen one, but like WhiteExpress says if you can do a little bit of metal work to the bumper to fit the sport grill, it would look sweet

I have a 4th fen bumper swap on mine. I posted pics on another thread from someone who had the sport grille on his with a 4th gen bump. I have to look for it and I'll post pics tmro on this one

Here it is. And I figured out how to upload from my phone so here's a pic of it now. That's as close as that gap was getting with a lot of work

I just saw an article on this that someone posted on facebook where a guy used a 2002 2500 grille on his 1500 with 4th gen bumper. Supposedly it goes farther down towards the bumper and virtually eliminates the gap. I can try and find that article.

looks like a regular NON sport grill its not raised on the cross hairs or have the dip at the bottom..

the same as the 99 up sport grille.. not just 02 specific.

Mine does not have a sport grille. Later in that build he ends up getting a sport grille

What did you use for brackets? I've got a 2010 bumper I just don't want to eff it up by not knowing what I'm doing when I make the brackets.

i used 3/16th plate steel when i made mine.
