This is why Ford came out with the 7.3 gasser. It's severely detuned at it's 430hp / 475 ft/lbs. It doesn't break a sweat being ran at 4000 rpm's for hours on end.

Another reason why I'd like to the 392 stroked to a 426 for similar numbers. It really wouldn't be working hard at all pushing 430-450 hp and 475-500 ft/lbs.

While the 3.0 I6-TT posts some impressive numbers, those engines are probably fine for the 1500 since the majority of those trucks aren't being worked. HD trucks require something a bit more robust.

What's interesting, the 5.7 hemi in the 2024 is still rated to tow more than the 2025 models. It can't be a lack of power since the HO crushes the hemi in peak numbers.

Hmm. :hmm:

We will likely see a new V8 in a few years. I can't imagine Mopar coming off having the most well known V8s of the last 15 years and going all in on a turbo six. Even if it is outstanding some people will still want a V8.

As far as GM's 6.2 goes, sure horsepower still matters. My point is their *base* engine was competing with Ram's upgrade engine.

GM's 6.2L/10-spd combo is very very nice, IMO. I didn't like a lot of the other stuff about the truck, but the drive train was solid.

As long as they trickle down that high output motor in to lower trims than the Tungsten or whatever it's called. Should be even faster yet. To move that highest trim level truck from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds is pretty impressive.

5.7 Hemi
I am fine with my Hemi. As I said in another post, There is no replacement for Displacement. Would I really want twin-turbo Hemi V-8 for pulling. Not really for me. For hot rodding, you betcha. give me a Hemi 572 with as much boost as it can handle. Definitely will make that little Hurricane seem like one of those little weed-wacker ricers with a fart can on it

Inresting read.

Translation: "It's great! (for today)"

Same as they said about Ford EcoBoost until they started failing at ~ 70,0000 miles from making a little, boosted engine work too hard in a big vehicle.

Gee, what a surprise. To those that know nothing about engineering but can write in perfect prose.

Plus - at these prices, ya can't just trade 'em in every 50,000 miles either.

They keep pushing 10 year loans - this is nothing but a pyramid scheme - it's not financially sustainable for customers. Then we get a big debt bubble burst and a big economic recession. Again.

And then they act all surprised by it, after repeating what caused the last ones. Tired of morons.

I think the standard output i6 turbo will be a fantastic upgrade to the Hemi. It can get the fuel economy of the Pentastar V6 and can make more power than the Hemi. Looking forward to driving one.

For how long? You good with 3 years like a Ford? For $70,000?

RHO will have it, though if that's a lower trim than the Tungsten or more of a lateral movement I'm not sure. It'll compete more directly with the Ford Raptor than the TRX did. IMO the Raptor will remain the better option for a off road bomber while the RHO will remain the more luxurious option. Ford's got the "R" with a forced induction 8 cylinder, though, and Ram won't have a competitor in that market space any longer.

Race motors last 200 miles.

Drag motors last 6 x 1/4 miles.

Why is this good for a consumer everyday driver vehicle?

Well reliability is definitely a wild card, but Fords later gen ecoboosts are holding up well considering how complex they are, and BMW’s straight six turbos hold up well too. It’s hard to beat the simplicity of the Hemi, but at some point you need to decide if you’re going to pay at the gas pump, or the mechanic. Either way you pay. While I don’t like turbo lag, I like everything else a turbo engine offers, especially that fantastic low end grunt, and smaller displacement fuel economy.

I'd rather not be stranded in the middle of nowhere by a purposely undurable glitzmobile for lots of money, thanks

Y'all can be happy while they run.

The old 2011-2014 ecoboost's were trash. I owned one. I know. Modern ecoboosts are lasting.

You're right. Better sell that 6.4 and go buy you a 1976 D100 with the 318LA. Wouldn't want you getting stranded in the middle of nowhere with that purposely undurable glitzmobile.

You bet.

We should only be able to choose between extremes forced down our throats instead of a reliable middle ground alternative.

I've designed and managed powertrains for 22 years.

Now run along and worship your technoglitz and leave me alone.
