3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine Lawsuit

I know it’s easy to get sucked in to a seemingly huge issue with the engines. I have 270,000 on my Pentastar. Burns 1/2 quart of oil at each oil change at 8,000 mile intervals since day 1. After replacing the hydraulic engine mounts, it runs as quiet and smooth as day 1. Best engine I have ever owned.

2018 Express 4x4. #2 cylinder code at 98k. Head gasket. My friend had the same truck, 98k also and #2 cylinder code. (I forget # the code offhand). I replaced my motor for a low mile used for $7,500. He rebuilt his for $6,500 but still needed to replace the leaking oil pump housing on top of the motor? Both trucks are commuters. No heavy hauling or towing. Semi-synthetic every 5k. Otherwise great motor, plenty of power and very smooth running. He is starting a small claims suit locally.

Had the same issue in my 2018 JGC Laredo but mine was the result of a leaking water pump at 77k miles. No warning lights about coolant temperature, coolant temp never got into the red, or low water level in the reservoir. Slight leak in cylinder # 2. Chrysler was going to replace the engine for free but the dealer wanted $5k to replace the engine.

This lawsuit was filed 01/28/2022 in CA, FL, IL & MA which includes Pentastar V6 engines from 2014-2020.

I have all of the problems stated in the lawsuit on my 2014 Ram 1500. I took it to the dealership they said the engine would have to be replaced with a rebuilt engine at a cost of $9,400.

The problem is the engine would still have defective new parts and eventually I will have the same problem again. Of, course the dealership did not tell me this. My research and reading the lawsuit concluded this. FCA will need to remanufacture new parts which the suit states. When they took the engine apart I took pictures of the defects. They replaced with a new engine design in 2021.

I brought the truck home until the case is adjudicated. The lawsuit is asking everyone with this engine whole. I decided to lease a new 2022 Ram that will be fully under warranty and when I turn the truck in hopefully this suit will be settled by then.

I doubt you will ever see what you expect. In 2015 a class action action was taken against FCA. FCA had on the window sticker that the 3.6 engine came with the 8 speed had a 3:55 gear ratio. But that was not true they had a 3:21 gear ratio. Several thousand joined in that law action. I dug very deeply and found out that the lawyers were going to take a very high% . So I went directly to FCA and they agreed to putting a remote start on my truck plus a four fold bed cover on the truck and 6 free oil and tire rotations. That came to almost $2,500. in value. The Class action went no where, and no one goy a dime. So be careful maybe settling yourself as I did would result in a better deal.

I've had 2 Pentastars, change the oil with full synthetic when the light comes on and I haven't had any issues. I grant that I don't work it hard and I only put 150k miles on both total.

Is there a link to a story about it or anything? My truck has that engine and its doing just fine at 130K. I had one problem with the oil filter housing having to be replaced at 100K, but that was expected.

I just changed the cooler on my grand cherokee was spewing oil paid $200 for aluminum aftermarket one its a stupid design for sure.

I was told by a tech. that they have since gone to a metal oil cooler.
