Hey everyone,

I got my 3 inch exhaust cutout in the mail today. As I was looking at it, I realized I never looked under the truck to see where the cutout should best go. The stock pipes before the y-pipe are 2.5 inches, if I'm not mistaken. Does the piping go to 3 inches starting just after the y-pipe, or after the cat? A diagram would be helpful for a simpleton like myself, lol. I tried searching for one, but to no avail. Where should be 3 inch cutout be welded in? Thanks in advance for the help!

Dont take my input to seriously as i am far from knowledgable about this stuff but i would assume you would want it as close to the headers as possible. Preferably before the cats? but like i said i dont have a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to this stuff that is just what i think would be best

Just trying to figure that out myself, wasn't sure where the 3" piping actually starts. If it is just after the Y pipe, you want to put it in that section so you are able to get the noise/exhaust out before the muffler.

i know on my truck the muffler is what changed it from 2.5 over to 3 inch. The muffler was 2.5 in and 3 out so that could be the case on your truck aswell

The 3" starts after the y pipe mine is right before the muffler that way its not exactly dumping it right under the cab a tad bit less highway noise lol

How do you like your QTP cutout? I've looked at them and another company for cutouts.

Sounds like a good place to put a cutout though.

QTP is a great cut out. I ran it for years on my old truck.

The point is to find a spot before the muffler, otherwise its like relocating your exhaust pipe.

It wont do anything for performance but it will sound MEAN

This is only if you want the truck as loud as possible. Most guys run them just after the y pipe and before the muffler. That way you get loud and normal sounds.

I'm running dual 3" DHM cutouts and have had no problems with them at all. The quality of the cutout is second to none ad it comes with a 4 or 5 year warranty.

I also have a buddy who has run multiple sets of DMH cutouts on his cars and hasn't had any problems with his either.

Thanks for all the input. I purchased my 3" from Jegs (amazon) for $33. I wanted the electronic cutout, but I figured it wouldn't be that hard to get under the truck to open it up for the weekends lol.

Awesome, QTP is actually a local place for me.

Was tempted to do a whole cat back exhaust but meh, now just gonna keep the stock and add in an e-cutout for noise when I want it.

Nothing like a Hemi roaring down the road. :hat:

I know you're a RC but do you have any pics of the QTP installed?

Just this one a couple months after installed its right before the muffler hanger I haven't looked under there in a while but I could have sworn I put it between the hanger and muffler like I did on my previous express

Thanks, gives me an idea on mine since I probably have a good 3 - 4 feet of piping from the Y pipe to the muffler. Feeling like maybe just dead setting the e-cutout and calling it a day.

Yeah, not really down with that one since I won't want the noise until I pull over. Probably just get the valve and the switch inside to have fun. :D

Anyone ran the QTP for quite sometime? I was curious if they eventually leak or what not.

I've ran a QTP electric cutout on my Camaro for about 11 years. Doesn't seem to leak at all-it has broke one time and I sent in the busted one and they sent me out a new one for about $40-50. The original lasted about 8 years I believe. So overall I'm quite happy with QTP
