Recently purchased a 2012 3/4 ton rig. I work overseas on a 30 day rotation, and am wondering what the best way is to keep the unit happy.

- trickle charge?
- wife drive it on one of the roads up to 60mph for 20 minutes.....once a week? twice a week?
- nothing, and let it sit in the garage for the 30 days?

This is my first diesel, so not really sure what's best for it in this situation. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Leaving it would be ok but I'm a firm believer in tricker chargers when your not using the vehicle all the time. My dad talked me into one on my motorcycle and it has done wonders for my battery life. It's a 2008 and still have the original battery which is saying a lot for a bike.

+1 On the trickle charger. Maybe some sort of fuel stabilizer like seafoam or something just to keep the diesel fuel in shape. Just when you start it up for the first time after its been setting let the oil have time to warm up so its viscous enough to properly lube the turbo before you wail on it.

unfamiliar with these new dpfs. would there be any way to force a regen cycle right before you park it so that your truck is not setting with soot built up in the filter?

Dat Cummins!
30 days is not long at all. You will be fine leaving it.
During the winter months, I would suggest letting the wife drive it a little while your away.

30 days is nothing, wouldn't do anything. I was a truck driver for 15 years and owned a Dodge Cummins, you will be fine.

I wouldn't worry about it. My powerstroke sits for 2-3 months at a time with out any issues.

And no it doesn't sit cause its broke. Lol
She only comes out from the diesel drags
