I replaced my tranny fluid at 88123 miles (few months ago) and now i’m at 89400. When it’s cold outside (don’t know if this is normal) the shift from 2-3rd is EXTREMELY hard. It shakes the entire truck.

Also, When the transmission is completely heated up (only gets to 120-130 on a hot day) when accelerating, it likes to go into 4th and just stay at 2K RPMS, and it honestly acts like a CVT. This just began to happen, and i’d like to know if anyone else had this issue. Thanks!

I forgot to add, at 1.5K RPMs there is a decently loud rattling sound too.

The rattle could be anything but on my truck it was the shield around one of my cat converters it drove me nutz for a month tryna figure out where it was coming from.

Possible 2nd to 3rd accumulator spring and of course the gov pressure sensor. Check accumulator spring Is common to break band adjusting is very important.

Had a similar issue with wife's 04 grand cherokee, earlier version but essential the same tran s. Need a valve body and sensor pack. All one unit. Cost about 900.00 at local trans shop.

900 dollars ?????
Shift kit 120$ has all the parts you or transmission shop will need to rebuild valve body. You can set it up mild if you want.

@huntergreen I'm assuming that's with the labor to R&R the valve body/fluid & filters, etc?

Correct, complete job out the door. Included new fluid and filter. Drive like new after fix. I believe I was around 130000 miles at the time. Btw, we owned since new and we had regular fluid changes. Traded in at close to 240000 miles and trans was still fine.

Just goes goes to show with regular fluid changes you can get a lot of miles out of a RFE trans[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

I have always felt they are a great trans, as was the 4.7 engine.

Yeah, the 4.7 is an AMAZING engine. Mines been beaten on majorly and she still purrs like a kitten. I’m gonna look at the tranny in a little, but i don’t think anything will be catastrophically wrong with it.

The sensor pack is internal and part of the valley. You need to drop the trans to inspect.

Luckily i have enough time to do that today, if it comes down to it. I took her on a drive today for around an hour and a half, and she shifted completely fine without anything weird.

Or just drop the pan not the transmission I really believe its 2to3 spring they break its common and it helps shift 2to 3.
Ill send a pic of it shorty

I'm having the same issue. Jumping hard from 1st to 4th and back and the truck will stay in 4th during Highway driving. What did you end up doing to fix it?

On this truck as it’s not really driven as much as my daily, it hasn’t been fixed yet. It doesn’t jump from 1st to 4th. I have examined the issues that came up on it as normal, as both it and the same truck but just different colors basically do the same thing. When was the last time you had a fluid change, and i’d advise installing a line pressure booster. massively helped my other 4.7 combo with shifting at over 400K miles.

Any idea what the booster increases psi to?

10 PSI for low speed shifting, and up to 30 for high speed shifting. I’ve had the booster for 24 hours now, and my truck is shifting like the 8 speed at low speeds now. Very very very impressed.
