looking at getting a new set of tires and noticed the 4 ply tires i want are around $300 cheaper than 10 ply tires of the same kind. Should i spend the extra and get 10 ply or are the 4 ply just fine. The only towing i do is occasionally a 16 foot jon boat.

If you don't haul or tow heavy the 4 ply's are just fine. I put 10 ply's on my 1500's because I tow heavy but the ride is really firm.

I have always ran 4-ply tires on my Rams, but my Rebel comes with 10 ply tires, and it rides rough and is noisy. I am getting another Ram Sport with 4-ply tires soon. If you do not do a lot of off road or rock crawling, I would stay with the 4-ply.

10 ply makes it ride like a truck. 4 ply makes it ride like a ****** SUV, at least it did for my truck. I've liked my LTs, can't remember if they're 8 or 10 ply. I got a nail in my driver front sometime in the last few months, but I haven't lost any air in it. I had a nail in my rear passenger shoulder of the tire, patched it with a regular patch. A thousand miles and still going strong.

Load rated tires are truck tires. Plain and simple. Built to be used hard. 4 ply are more comfortable, but not as sturdy.

Well I guess I'm going with 4 ply. Since I don't do any off roading or tow a lot. 99% of my driving driving is highway driving.

Get the 10 ply. Those are truck tires and will be much harder to puncture. You don't want to be limited on your towing capacity in the future by something like your tires.

275/65/20 is the size I have now so I plan on sticking with that size. Plus another reason for looking into the 4 ply tires are they are around 300 cheaper than 10 ply. And I have tuition to pay so that extra 300 will go along way.

I am reading the posts here and heres my input as I just had tires put on my '14 Ram. Bought the truck at a dealer, used and had nice tires on it (Linglong Crosswind). Had to replace the tires and bought an almost brand new set of Hankook Dynapro ATM tires. Same size as recommended (265X70X17). Went to 3 different places to have them mounted. Walmart wouldn't mount them as they are a P-Metric rather than an LT. Another place would not mount them as they were only an 8 ply rated tire and truck door sticker calls for an "E" rated, 10 ply rated tire. The Linglong tires I took off were only a 4 ply. So took just tires and rims to the garage and had them do them and then I mounted them myself at home. I haul an 18' Ranger Bassboat, that's it. Never had any issues hauling with the 4 ply tires. But got the new Hankook Dynapro tires on the truck. IMG_1182 (1).JPG

Unless youre hauling a heavy trailer 4 ply tires will pull a light boat no problem. No worries running 4 ply for light duty, people I don't care if you have 4 ply or 10 ply tires a nail will still puncture your tire with a 4800 lb truck running over it. Trust me I was a tire tech for 20 years, youd be surprised at what ive seen stuck in truck tires! ( a pair of pliers, an in- tact spark plug, a fork, a syringe needle, a rock, a knife, a file, etc. just to name a few)

What exactly is a 4 ply tire? I thought LT tires came in 6 (c), 8 (d), or 10 (e). Are you calling a non-LT tire a 4 ply?

You can't over do it when it comes to tire thickness, only under do it. I would get the 10 ply for sure, for no other reason than it's available. Yeah the 4 plys are 300 cheaper, but how much will multiple spares cost?
