New to the site as well as to audio/video wiring. My 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 oem camera would only work occasionally, never when I needed it, even after unplugging and cleaning the connections I could find. Thought issue was the OEM head unit, and wanted a bigger screen, so installed a Boss BE10ACP head unit with 10 inch screen plus PAC RP4-CH11 Wiring Interface, from Crutchfield. Still had camera issues.

Next, Purchased "OEM like" tailgate handle backup camera from Amazon. At rear of truck, installed tailgate handle and camera. Underneath, I connected black wire with red stripe to ground it on metal frame. Capped off red wire and the parking line wire. No other connections at rear except for grounding and to back of camera. Ran yellow rca cable to dash. Connected red wire to 12v power (at center console, by gear shift). Connected RCA yellow to back of Boss head unit yellow female marked rear camera. Turned on truck. Boss unit works as expected. Click on camera, no signal. Shift into reverse, no signal. Checked settings, enabled both front and read cameras, still no signal. What else do I try?

Did you figure this out? I'm thinking of doing this exact thing to my 2014.

I did! The after-market tailgate camera needed power from the brake light, from the red wire I had capped off. Once I fixed that, it all worked as expected. I likely could have bought a different tailgate camera with the same harness and used the existing back-to-front wiring, but was concerned that was the cause, so chose to run all new wire.

That's great. And you installed the 10.1" boss. No problems as of right now? I'm going to do this once I get all the parts. Do you have the steering wheel radio controls? I only have the standard ones. Do you now if I'll need a different wiring harness or can I use the same one? Crutchfield says the 10.1" won't fit my 2014. Hoping it will fit just fine.

Yeah, the 10" Boss works fine. I love how huge the screen is. My steering wheel controls for the stereo are near-death, rarely working, so I gave up. One thing to note, no idea why, but this Boss system, you can't change speakers from front to back, only left to right. Didn't matter to me. I used Crutchfield's PAC RP4-CH11 Wiring Interface with the Boss BE10ACP and Metra 99-6511 Dash Kit (Black), all on my 2012 Ram, so I'm surprised the 2014 would he different.
