used 4wd today and put it in 2wd when parked. Left work in 2wd and noticed a notice coming from front at slow speeds 0-10 noticed like a ticking sound going down road at speed limit it sounds like it's sucking air. It has the shifter on floor not electric and my 4x4 light does not flash it turns on and off as it should. It will not engage into 4wd hi or Lo but sounds like it's not completely disengaged while in 2wd. Please help

Yep multiple times and same thing it's like a sequential ticking at a low speed idk if it's a vacuum like or actuator?

You have a NV241 Transfer case with the Manual On the Fly shift. The actuator is mechanical and cannot produce any breathing or vacuum sounds.

From what I can gather of what you are stating, the Xfer case is probably just not completely engaged or disengaged. The shift linkage gets often damaged if not completely broken off and this is probably what you are seeing here.

Get the service manual, section 21 page 591 (Page 2430 of 2895 in the PDF) You will find the information realted to your Xfer case as well as a diagnostics chart.

Hope this helps.

Ok So the noise I'm hearing is probably the front end being partially locked in?

Ok noise goes away when it's in 4x4 but no 4wd still just 2 and noise seems awful in 2wd. Still just the linkage maybe not letting it fully engage/disengage?

Ok it's drivers side axle but I'm not sure if it's axle bearing or the shaft inside the front end?
