4x4 Help

Ok I have a 99*dodge*ram*1500*the 4x4 is not working and its not the linkage rod. I can put it in 4L put it in drive and it acts like its still in neutral and not go any where you can here the gears spinning in it. I turn it off abd let it sit put it back in 2wd and it drives fine. I go to put it in 4H and it acts like is ingages in gear but does not and any time I put it in 4wd no 4x4 light comes on. Needing to know where to start looking. Could it have vacuum leak for the 4x4 or what. Please help any advice will be greatly appreciated

When I put mine from 2hi to 4lo the rear wheels go into low but the front axle doesn't engage. I think MY probly is in the front axle so maybe yours in the transfer case if when you put it in 4lo it doesn't even move in 2lo. If that made any sense lol

Op you have a transfer case issue. Start looking for a Nv231 or upgrade to the NV241.
