I’ve pulled my 16’ gooseneck with about 2k pounds worth of calves. Not exactly heavy but I live in hill country tx it does good. It’s wayyyy better if you use tow/haul mode or lock into 4th or 5th gear. It’s not gonna win a race or get amazing fuel economy. But it’s a lot tougher than a 1500 which I’ve had and does a really good job. If you're gonna be towing heavy heavy or frequently then it might be a lil bit of a pain. All depends on what you want and or need out of it.

Just saw a Youtube video of a guy who towed 14K with the 5.7L 2500 (4th gen); his Cummins was in the shop and he had no choice but to tow using the gasser. He was surprised how well it pulled (even on grade) and how much quieter it was compared to the diesel. I attempted to find the video but couldn't. If I find it, I will copy the link.

I had a 13’ 1500 with the 5.7 it was nice. I thought then that the 5.7 must kinda suck in a 2500 but I was wrong. Guess they tune it diffevent. I’m happy with my 5.7 in the 2500

I had a 2008 2500 with the 5.7L and pulled generator trailers with it fairly frequently and never thought it was bad. One time I got a little too relaxed and forgot it was back there until I hit a speed bump a bit faster than one would like too. I remembered I was hooked up real quick! Gen trailers aren't too heavy, maybe 2k to 3k lbs. That truck had 200,000 miles on it when I pulled a gen trailer from NJ to NC and the motor/trans never got hot on I-95 in August at highway speeds (tow/haul mode engaged). good motor and a good truck.

I doubt I've pulled over 8K (two compact tractors on a car hauler trailer), but have never felt the 5.7 was underpowered.

I would love to see that video. Can you please link it?

I’ve been having some issues with my 5.7, even looked at some 2018 diesels in case I traded out of it, but we went down to Florida this week and I forgot how effortlessly it pulls our 9,000lb 5th wheel. I’m hoping I get my issues resolved, Love this truck. It’s perfect for what I need it to do

Towed a John Deere 110 loader / backhoe. Combined with trailer weight it was about about 10K, towed it fine. I've towed my new travel trailer (8.5k loaded) several hundred miles. With WD hitch I sometimes forget it's there.
