I am about to replace a blown 5.9 in a 1998 extended cab RAM with one I built a couple of years ago for my Challenger. The motor is built to the old 390 horse Mopar Performance crate engine specs except it is .030 over and has 9.25 compression. The cam is a 228/232 .501/.513 hydraulic roller with R/T heads.
I know the stock intake, injectors, and tune are not the proper setup for this engine and will kill performance. How much risk is there if I run the truck in this configuration (with a light foot) until I can get a proper intake, injectors and tune? And in what order should I change them if all at once isn't an option?
I have a Pertronix billet distributor with the Ignitor III module in the motor now. Is there any way to use it in the truck or will it go the way of the RPM Airgap and carb and be up for sale?
I am also looking for recommendations as to the intake, tune, and what size injectors. I don't plan on turning the engine over 5200 RPMs and I am really more concerned with torque.
Sorry for the long first post.
Thanks!
