545rfe 04' toast?

04' quad 4x4 hemi. Started the truck up in a parking lot close to the house and put it in reverse and nothing but rpm's, try all other gears and the same, nothing but engine. Putting it back into park it grinds. Checked the fluid levels cold and the atf is very high up the dipstick and is clean. No symptoms prior to the failure. No codes according to my superchips 3865. I don't do any towing.

1. wtf?
2. If a rebuild is required, what upgrades should i do along with the rebuild?
3. Is a re-manufactured better than a rebuild?
4. Is a aftermarket trans the way to go?

Goals: I want a better performing trans if I have to dig into my pockets, I also want the fix what I currently have if possible.

I had a similar issue with mine back in June. I tried to back in the driveway and when trying roll over the curb I had no go, D no go, 1st 2nd no go. I put it in P and shut it off and right when the motor made the final revolution it jumped and popped into P. I took it the shop a couple days later and I lost 4th and 5th. I went and looked at my trans once it was tore down and my TC detonated internally and my clutches were gone (bare metal).
