Well I think I have answered my own question. Just stuck my myself under my co workers new 21 2500 and it strongly appears that the 50 gal tank is a direct bolt in.
So now the hunt starts for a wrecked 21 2500 with a 50 gal tank.

If you get this to work, you'll have the appreciation of 4th genners towing at 7 mpg everywhere. Good luck, Brian!

Just for grins, did you price out a new one? If you know a guy who has an account at the dealer parts dept (or know a guy who owns a shop), they should be able to get .25 off the price of the list price. ...maybe Rock Auto will sell them soon too(??)

Bumping this for further input. Curious if this will work as well.

From what I can see on my coworkers truck is that the fuel tank is longer. The main portion of the tank where the straps are looks practically identical, so I believe the pump/ sending unit from the 34 gallon tank will drop right in. Just need to get in bcm and change settings to 50 gallon.

Found the part number on Rock Auto, but they were out of stock. A quick searhc turned up a couple places with them in stock for about $410+$35 shipping for the cheapest one.

For that kind of money, it might be something I am seriously gonna consider.

Correct- 50 gallon tank is only available for the 8' bed. It's the best 300.00 option I ever made.
