Externally it is the same basic engine, so it will bolt into place. A few things would need to be changed/altered. Front timing cover is different between cars and trucks. The truck intake does not match the ports a 6.1 head has (unless you use 5.7 heads). Exhaust ports are shaped different as well. Then to truly take advantage of it, custom tuning is in order.

Actually you can just swap the top end of a 6.1(heads, cam, intake, throttle body, headers) and run a diablo sport tuner loaded with a tune and it gets ALMOST supercharger performance with half the cost, Arlington performance (shophemi.com) has everything you need

Yes you can swap a 6.1 into your truck. Depending on budget you could go stroker build or just a cam/head combo on your 5.7. The 6.1 topend kit will not produce the same or even close HP/TRQ as being boosted.

To give you #s
5.7 is 345 ci (stock ram and base lx and Jeep hemi)
6.1 is 370 ci (used to be the performance motor for the SRT)
6.4 is 392 ci (new performance motor for SRT)
7.0 is 426 ci (actualy measues 418)
7.2 is 440 ci (few shops are making them, PWR, Arrington)

For a DD you would prob like a good head/cam combo along with supporting mods. If its a weekend truck go stroked or stroked and boosted.

So I can put a 6.1 intake on 5.7 heads but not 5.7intake on 6.1 heads?

Physially yes they will bolt up eaither way but will not flow because of the porting. Whats the goal for the truck?

For that RWHP your going to need either a good head cam combo with a good amount of spray, or a stroker on small spray, or a stroker on boost. Cheapest way out is heads/cam and the bottle. Your gonna figure round $5k in parts with no install and thats allowing for some supporting mods to go along with it.

id like to. i know i can swap in the 5.7 but why not go bigger LOL

Very true. There's a guy on DT who sand drags his truck, he used to blow transmissions on a regular basis with his 5.7 based 392 until he got an ATS. Then he blew his 392, so now he's building a 6.1 based 426, but using his Inertia 5.7 BV heads and truck intake.

HemiLonestar: He is on here also, Don aka Daking. He is the only other ram on the forums I knew of that did sand drags besides me. He went through trans like I went through pistons till now lol.

Thomas: You could do that but still not going to put up the numbers like you want. Whats your current mods?

Are you looking for a dyno number for a fun street truck? Sorry for all the questions just trying to help you see all the different options.

The 04's are the First year that Can be Supercharged, thats the route I would go with an Inertia Cam/Heads/CMR Tune and all the other great Tranny and Diff Mods avail.
