Yup, drove several equivalent trucks and heard no whistling noise. The service manager told me he heard the noise and it was normal, I asked the service manager to go in the lot and drive the same truck and tell me if he hears it cause I didn’t. After he tested the trucks that he had in stock he said he was unable to hear it because the vehicles on the lot were so new that they had the normal new engine knock.

Wow....I hope corporate get it right for you. Glad my service manager isn’t like that, I don’t know how you’ve stayed so calm through this process. Please keep us posted.

Reloader, the mechanic at the ram dealer said it was a hydroboost pump and his buddy working next to him said only the diesels had that set up. The mechanic popped the hood of my truck and pointed out the hydroboost pump to his coworker. The coworker said he stood corrected and didn’t know gassers had it too. I’m not a mechanic but only relaying what was said and replaced. The work order from that warranty fix said it was a hydroboost pump with lines. I didn’t have a chance to pull the fuse due to work and weather...I will do it today. The power steering pump was also replaced along with the idler pulley so I’m gunna skip over pulling that fuse. I also still hear it when it’s in 4x4 and manual shifting.

The diesels have hydroboost brakes. Is the whine coming from inside the cab or outside?

I’m at wits end!! I have an ‘18 3500 crew with a 6.4 and 4.10’s with one issue no one seems to be able to fix. I’ve had the truck for 1 1/2 yrs and since I bought it there has been this annoying whistling/buzzing noise from the front cab that get louder with the rpm’s of the engine and when I step on/off the gas pedal. I had 3 dealers work on it, all three heard the issue, numerous different diagnoses and numerous failures. Idler pulley, hydroboost pump, hydroboost lines, alternator, and several other could be’s that weren’t. To me it sounds like a bad ground or noise canceling problem but all the dealers assured me it wasn’t. The last dealer told me to not worry since the truck isn’t throwing a code even though he heard and acknowledged it. I told him it wasn’t alright to have what sounds like a bee reviving in the dash. I started a case with FCA today but I fear that is going to be no win battle. Aside from that the truck runs good but I can’t take the noise! Has anybody had an issue similar? Thanks

I had the same issue with my 2017 2500/6.4/4.10. It ended up being the water pump. They replaced it under warranty. The funny thing is I'm the one who told the dealership to check the water pump, based on various forum threads that I had read.

Anyway, this is what my problem was...Yours may be different, but it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the heads up TomAce, I’ll tell the dealership. Josh, it does it both stationary and in motion.

Seems to me you may need 60 year old mechanic to diagnose the issue the old fashioned way and doesn't depend on computer diagnostics along with using some common sense.

Whatever it is can be isolated using simple logical process of elimination of possible causes/source. Under the hood the best diagnostic tool may be a length of heater hose used as a stethoscope. If the noise is only apparent in the cab if not sound system related may be in the A/C plenum or blower motor.

My truck had a squeak noise it ended up being the water pump. It was replaced at around 12,000 miles.

So, update from FCA corporate. TINA(care specialist) advised me that she did speak to 2 of the 3 dealers that has worked in my truck and the dealers told her that they were not able to fix the issue. With that, Tina said that she would not be able to further assist me and the case would be closed. I asked her if the dealers acknowledged that there was an issue and she said yes but they feel that it’s not a problem. I asked her again if it wasn’t a problem then why would they proceed with replacing parts. If it wasn’t an issue then why replace a hydroboost pump, lines, idler pulley, etc. Tina was unable to answer the question and advised me that she has no pull with them and couldn’t schedule an engineer or at least someone from them to further investigate. Corporate was a complete waste of time and the steps she took I already did. I’m very disappointed with the way FCA handled this and if this is the way they treat a loyal customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I guess if there is an issue with your vehicle and it not blatantly obvious to what the problem is, they push it off and ignore it. Words cannot describe how infuriated I am with how they are handling a problem with one of there new vehicles.

Jeff, my fear is that I only have 11000 mi left on my warranty and with my luck, that noise will be from something serious

Try removing the serpentine belt to see if the noise is still there.

That was my exact thought. That will Eliminate the water pump, alternator, idler and tensoiner pulley and power steering pump unless you have electronic steering.

Brandonc, did your sound come from the front of the dash also?
It was hard to pin point almost like it was echoing. Sometimes it sounded like it was from the front and then the rear. But it definitely in my case was the exhaust

FCA told me the same thing they acknowledge there was a noise but it doesn't effect the operation of my vehicle and the case was closed.

So after posting my earlier rant, I was contacted by a rep from this site today and low and behold, Tina called me shortly after and said that she is going to further handle the case. Let’s see if they do the right thing!
