Had truck at one mechanic shop for like 2 months and they decided that the injectors were bad. Bought brand new injectors from the Dealership and it ran for about 1 month and than started having problems with truck starting. So I took it to the dealership here in town they replaced the fuse box under the hood and also the instrument cluster in dash. But still had a problem in the mornings with truck not wanting to start. Now it will start if you spray a little starting fluid and than start it but let off of peddle and truck dies.

If you can keep it running by giving it fuel it is probably a fuel issue if it blows black too much fuel or not enough air

But the best scanner you can afford it helps avoid guessing if a mechanic is telling you he thinks it’s injectors maybe it’s maybe nota scanner should tell you

If there is a problem with DEF in modern diesel engines, you'll get a service/no start notice if there is a problem, but it doesn't stop the engine from running. DEF doesn't go through the engine, it's injected downstream in the exhaust into the SCR.
Cummins didn't start using DEF in the Ram trucks until the 2013 model year.
