Found this on youtube. It was a commercial engine in a box van but a pentastar still. Keep that oil changed and the radiator clean! I'm quite impressed with this report. It's the highest mileage pentastar I've seen anywhere.

Enjoy!

This is really impressive. The guy seems like a straight shooter so I do not think this is a troll.

Aside from having 626k on the clock, what prompted the tear down?

Did you watch the video? In the very beginning he talks about the crankshaft / cam timing being off by 7 degrees, the engine not running right and throwing lots of codes.

Nope... I skipped through the video a bit.

The left bank timing chain tensioner broke. The video shows the pieces he found when he opened it up.

well that puts me at ease for my wife's Journey with the 3.6. We bought it new in 2012 and it now has 130K on it. Aside from regular maintenance items (i.e. brakes, tires, filters, spark plugs and oil changes) I have only ever had to replace 1 wheel bearing and the thermostat. By far one of the most reliable motors/vehicles I have ever owned!

You don't hear much about it anymore; But do you remember when the Pentastar came out, it was rumored that they were supposedly designed to run with some form of forced induction?

That dude was impressed with how heavy duty/stoutly built the bottom end is. I never heard the word girthy before today!

Makes you wonder how far that engine would have gone if he had changed timing chains 100,000 miles ago.

I change the oil in my Wrangler's Pentastar every 5000 miles. It ought to last forever.

I read somewhere that the 3.6 was designed to be used /w a turbo. I think this engine would be a match for the Ford twin turbo six.

Been a rumor forever... https://www.pentastars.com/

"A 3-liter twin-turbo version is on the way (it will probably be less powerful than the 404 horsepower version used by Maserati)."
