I used to always think my evic was fairly close Cause I checked it once and it was close. So I decided to check it on a regular basis. 7 weeks 2500 miles evic ranges from 15.2-16mpg and hand calculating I’ve never got better than 13.2. I drive a mix of highway and city. Crazy it’s that far off

Mine has always been off 1.0 to 1.7 mpg. That is unacceptable to me. Not sure why they can't get it to calculate closer than that. Every other vehicle i have had was off maybe .5 at the most.

Mine says somewhere around 12.4 since I bought it. My actual hand calculated is 11.9 so mine isn't too far off. Even with my 2013 1500 it was always pretty close but I found it seems the more you baby the gas pedal the closer you EVIC is to actual.

Mine has always been off between .5-1.2. I don't know what is going on with mine now but it is getting winter blend mileage! EVIC says 12.5-13.4. In the summer I normally get 14.5-16.

Mine goes form full to E then I refuel :anitoof: I get between 9 and 13 mpg it says. Every time I’ve calculated it’s very close. But I rarely look I just needs gas. I don’t even look at gas prices. :banghead:

Yea one main complaint I have is the small gas tank! 330 miles is about all I ever get. Sometimes more sometimes less

Well since you guys brought it up, I just got my best hand calculated mpg’s with the power wagon with these last few fillups.... 14.4!!!! The computer readout was 15.2, so not THAT far off. Of course, thats just daily driving with no towing.

Hey, I was real impressed! Its usually about 11-12 when just cruising.

I typically get 11.8 to 12.6ish mpg (hand calculated), while EVIC normally reads 13.8 to 14.3. Funny thing is the EVIC predicts a range of 450 miles while in reality, I typically get around 320 miles before EVIC says I'm empty. There's a huge difference between 450 and 320.

Usual variance for me is just under 2 mpg. Once or twice it was about . 5 to .7 off. 10 to 13 is average hand calculated. EVIC since new reads 14.9 TO 15. Maybe 12.4 over that duration actual. That seems more optimistic than my tank to tank variance for some reason.

Post 5 nailed it with humor. Better to just give it a drink and ignore it. More recent PCM update brings MDS in more frequently along with that downshift pattern change. More MDS doesn't seem to make any difference of note but the rear end doesn't clank as much on deceleration.

Yep, Ram's EVIC has always been 2-3 mpg off even in in my diesel. I record mine every tank and EVIC usually states 18-19 mpg every tank , but my calculations shows me getting 15-17 mpg.

I don't care. Didn't buy it with even a hint of a thought about gas mileage.
I think I checked evic once or twice when I first got it and it seemed to be within the range of mpg's verse my driving and gas ups.
I'm at 2500 miles and I'm guesstimating at between 13-15 mpg around town. I've done a few 180-200 mile round trips filling the tank before each and not even going through half a tank.

Wow, the fuel mileage really sucks based on my 1999 4WD 2500 Ram Quad cab with the 24 valve Cummins Diesel. I get 17.5 around the city and over 20 mpg on the highway unless I’m pushing the speed limit to around 80 mph and then it’s 18 to 20 mpg. I really expected to hear a big improvement over 20 years and these fancy 8 speed automatics but I guess I was wrong.

I hand calculate every tank as well and I'm about the same with my 2016 cummins. 2-3 mpg off what the EVIC reads every time.

I think some of the emission crap kills mpg on both diesel & gas. I never could figure that out. I think all the emission equipment is supposed to make it burn cleaner, but if you have to burn more gallons per mile, doesn't that make it a wash? :emotions34: Same with E-85 it's supposed to burn cleaner, but I drop 3-4 mpg every time I use it. Not to mention all of the diesel it takes to produce it. Planting corn, harvesting corn, transporting corn! :shakehead:

I have only had mine for about 2 weeks i put gas in it the first time and missed the read out on the pump before it cleared so i didnt get a chance to hand calculate it, but the dash said 12.4. I cleared that along with my miles and now about half tank later it is telling me 11.7 around town im sure that has to be pretty close i have 35 on it so that doesnt help matters. I have about a 350 mile trip coming up i am curious to see how it does for that, but like some of you are saying i didnt get it for gas mileage when its on E i put gas in it and continue on.

In regards to the computer, I ask @RamCares if they could make an option for future trucks to automatically reset the average tank mpg on every fill-up. My wife's old Genesis Coupe did this and I wish all my vehicles had this option.

I use one of the 2 trip meters to reset it every fill up. I use that avg mpg and can also record the average speed for that tank.

Being that mine is so far off I do wish there was a way to calibrate it or add an offset to get it closer to reality

I would love to have that too. Adjust it to subtract 2.5 from whatever algorithm it is using.
