Ah that’s right! The Cuda was the performance package and the Baracuda the standard package?

I remember the Cuda’s at the track, six packs, a Hemi every now and then. I had the big brother (size wise) 71 Challenge 440, 727, Dana 60 w/ 6.17’s and eventually 4.10’s for the street. The Cuda’s were fast and had a good looking front end. That’s the only thing I ever saw and it was it the mirror. ;)
You must of been running 1/8th mile tracks and trapping maybe 95 mph,as that would put you at 6800rpm through the lights with a 29" tall slick. 125 mph with a 29" tall tire in the 1/4 is going to put you right at 9,000 rpm, ain't no way you were spining a 440 to 9,000

The car was built out of random race parts. The car was originally an inline 6, auto, considered junk, no motor or trans, missing some of the interior and multi colored primer on the outside, The motor came out of a crashed GTX, the driver loses control after wheeling and hit the wall rolling the car down the strip. The tranny was built for another drag car but the buyer failed to payoff what was owed. The Dana came out of an oval track car with the 6.17 and a spool already in it. Ran it that way for a summer before switching to 4.10’s. With a set of sticky slicks the car was fun fun fun. At 35 mph the speedometer read 60. I was the breakaway member of the family running a Mopar in a family of diehard Ford enthusiasts. We had two other competitive cars racing that year: 68 Olds 442, 425, 2x750 double pumpers, 4 speed and a 69 428 mustang, 4-spd. The mustang ended up on the cover of HotRod magazine years later under different ownership.

The second picture is the car just before I sold it. The motor and trans were still set up for the strip, battery still in the trunk but the interior, wheels and exterior setup for the street. You’ll notice the traction bars, not needed, were installed more for show.

Car looked good, but like i said you must of been running 1/8th mile tracks with 6.17's,as you wouldn't have enough rpm to carry it out the back door on a 1/4 mile. My old 68 Z ended up in a couple hotrod mags back in the early 80's,it ran 10.70's with an aluminium headed nitrous sniffing 433 big block, and made money on the street, not enough to ever pay for it's parts breakage though, aarrgghh, lol. One of 2 cars i ever kick my rear for selling,i had a pile of hours into the body on it,the flairs were steel and handmade, every body seam was welded up,no door handles, relocated gas filler, relocated and frenched power antenea ,pretty well everything under the hood and suspension that could be unbolted went in the chrome tank, lol. It was also the first and last black toy i've ever owned, keeping a black vehicle looking good is a career, :waytogo: :Big Laugh:

I ran 1/4 mile bracket racing. You’re running against your own time, consistency wins. I don’t remember ever making any stellar runs, I was focused on trying to run the same time every time. Hole punch was awesome but at 500’ that was pretty much it. You are correct, run until in and out of the limiter. Not enough money to be running 3 cars. My mom would run powder puff occasionally in my dads stock 67 cougar 289, auto. It was a family event. My buddy had the RS version of yours with the 327. Fun street car, wanted to buy it but he wouldn’t sell it to me.

I used to set my girlfriend (wife for the last 37 years, lol) up in it ,and she did as much street racing as i did with it.It was always easier to find a sucker that'd race a cute girl then a guy,and she made a bunch of money with the car on the street in the early/mid 80's,as not many street cars were running high 10's back then. Now she races her low 11 sec 1320 Challenger as often as she can,and keeps me broke buying rear tires for it,lol

A couple outfits build a supercharger kit for the slant 6,and that'd give it a decent amount of power, and would be a hell'va conservation piece at the local carshows.Engine Masters put a Torq Storm blower on a 225 and made pretty decent power with it at 7lbs of boost,at 10lbs they pushed the head gasket out,but the little engine was almost making 383 Road Runner power before the gasket let go

That's crazy!
I literally just watched that episode today... I love that show!!

Really thinking about finding one...I've seen the Hemi clones, the AAR's, and the R/T 440's...

An original R/T Hemi or 440/6 would be probably way out of my price range. I've seen the 383ci Gran Coupe's with the 4 speed pistol grip Hurst shifter that are not too badly priced. I've only seen a few 440 Barracuda's less than $40k online in a few places.

I want a driver and not something that would take $30-$40k to get running...

Online I've seen the 383 Barracuda's going anywhere between low $teens to mid $30k...I don't mind turning a wrench to get little stuff done or replacing stuff if need be....maybe next year find something that would be a fun weekend car.
Here's a neat little Demon that's well with-in your budget, and being a South American car is a bit differant, but the milege is very low at 56000kms.

Awright way to go,it's a beautiful Road Runner. I liked the 71 to 74 Road Runners alot more then i did the 71-74 Chargers or SuperBee Chargers. You'll have to give us old guys some underhood and interior shots so we can live vicariously, lol :waytogo: . If you don't mind, how much did you end paying for it OC455

Whoa....lol.....I didn't buy it, I just found it when I was cruising the web. I really want to check this one out though. It's one state over. Have to see where this guy is on price. It looks to be all numbers matching....but it looks like it has a split bench front with the 4 speed....no center console.....need some more pictures.

The split front bench was the standard/common seat in the Road Runners,my Uncles old 68 383/4 speed Road Runner was a split bench. If you do pick it up,some of us old guys will want pictures, lol

Copy that Sir. Will see what will transpire. I still like the way the Barracudas look, but this RR has got me with the green and the strobe striping.

Get in contact with these guys.

Guy I worked with, and his Wife ran this club out of their home, for years.
Last I knew, they had a couple of the wing cars, cuda's and others toys.

Pretty sure she sold some off, after he died and stepped down from club management
but if anyone knows of any of these cars, actually worth buying, it will be these folks.

There will not be a bargain to be found but anything they recommend will be well worth owning.

EDIT:
just looked at teh page, myself, and looks like she still puts out the newletter and has her address on the site.
