8 speed problems

I have a 2014 ram 1500 with the 8 speet auto. It runs like a dream shifts well and gets 22 on a trip. All good except this weekend I was at camp which is on a 10 deg steep logging road. I put it in 1rst gear Low range. At first it started off like it should in 1rst gear low. I could have gotten out and walked beside it. Then it started hunting for gears. It would speed up seem to shift into a higher gear then go back to 1rst. Then it kept repeating the shifting. If there was snow on the ground or ice like is sometimes, I would have been in deep doo doo. Anyone know whats up with it or has the same issue.

Can't you just put it in manual mode "1" when you're in low range and shift it manually?

Don't they refuse to hit the rev limiter and upshift? If you got anywhere close to that maybe you scared it into an upshift... lol.

Mine will sit at the rev limiter all day if you let it.

I do put it in 1 on the steering wheel and low range on the selector dial. It will start up going a slow walking speed then pick up and start going a little to fast then grab and slow down again. I brought it to the dealer last week and he put the diagnostic machine on it as he drove down the road and said it worked great. I was not happy . I think I got him talked into going for a ride with me to a steep raod where I can hopefully re create it.
