What would be a good year or model car to get a used 8hp70 from?
Going into a 2012 1500 2wd 6.2 hellcat shortblock with a procharger
Thx

The 8 speeds from a V6 are dirt cheap.
8 speed from a 5.7 is more
8speed from a 6.4 is more yet
and from a 6.2 is WAY more

You will either need a built 8HP70 or you'll wanna go with an 8HP90. There's a reason Hellcat cars use the 90. Car versions of the 8sp have the programming (TCM is internal, integrated with the valve body) to allow manual shifting; truck version does not. So depends on what you want. Highly suggest you have a long chat with both Sound German (for the retrofit itself) and Hellraiser (to talk about trans strength/choice).

8 speed from a 5.7 is more
8speed from a 6.4 is more yet

The 8sp from a car V6 is completely different altogether (845RE) and are just strong enough for that. The Ram V6 trucks use the 70.
The 8sp from the 5.7 and 6.4 are the same trans (8HP70). The Ram 4wd uses the 8HP75.
Of course the 8sp from a 6.2 is more lol. That's the 8HP90. The Trackhawks and Durango cats use the 8HP95 for the AWD.

Go 2015 or newer so you have more trans tuning options.

If you get a charger/challenger trans you will have more pre built trans tunes but you will need a different output shaft flange for the ram driveshaft. And you will need to reuse the torque converter dust shield off the charger as the bell housing differs, good thing though is the trans lines are already tapped as to where a ram transmission isn’t tapped and what’s the trans heater fittings (you will need to tap the holes if you don’t use the oem heater).

What driveshaft spacer is required? Like the spects? I talked with Russel and he didn’t specify the spacer length? Rear shaft take it. I have a 2011 Ram 1500 with the 545rfe and looking into the 8 speed swap.

To touch on something @StickyLifter said: I see there are two different PCM's (color of the plugs) and the one with brown should be able to accept the trans with no retro kit from SG. Is it possible to swap the PCM's if you don't have the brown plugs? I guess that wouldn't solve the issue of the connections for the dial shift knob, but was curious.

Hey guys,

I have a 2013 4.7 i would love to do this to.

From my (long) search into this, and from irl experience, the 4.7 shares everything with the 5.7 (flexplate, etc) aside from the engine and engine wiring itself.

Would it work if i bought everything? Thank you.

It's pretty much plug and play for any early 4th gen hemi truck at this point. Call or email Russell at Sound German Auto (came up with the ZF retro harness). ZF's have been hooked to a multitude of engines in a multitude of different cars. Not gonna be a huge leap if there's any kind of adaptation needing to be done for a 4.7.

What are you all referring to exactly with the brown ECM plug?

Good to know, really can't wait to do the swap then. I wonder how much more competent it'll make the 4.7.

The ECM has different colored plugs depending on how your setup. The brown plug means that you've got the setup for an 8 speed pretty much there. Please correct me if i'm completely wrong on that.

Ok, that’s what I thought. Trying to then figure out what I would need to complete the swap on a 2014 4x4. Would I just need the factory transmission harness and crossmember? Then change the ECM and BCM with HP tuners and Alfa? Would the wiring already be in the dash for rotary switch?
