All other factors aside is the 8 speed transmission in the 19s and 20s worth trading up for? I haven’t driven one yet am a little scared that if I do it will cost me some $ haha.

I don't think that by itself is worth a trade, but maybe that's just me- I'm sure many would argue my opinion.

From a $$$ perspective, it obviously doesn't pencil out. However, I had a 2015 6.4/66RFE, and my buddy recently got a 2019 6.4/ZF, and after a brief test drive, the feel and performance difference is amazing. The ZF unleashes the beast in the 6.4, where the 66RFE is like a yoke around its neck. There's always something better...

Does your truck get the job done well enough for you? If there was no 8 speed would you be considering finding something else?

You definitely don’t want to test drive anything with the zf8hp, doesn’t matter if it’s the 3.6, 5.7, 6.4 HD or Apache SRT. Whole different animal compared to the predecessors.

Yea the 8 speed really wakes **** up. My half ton with the 5.7/zf feels like it has way more power than my pw with the 6.4/6 speed. And it simply just works way better.

exactly what I was looking for...exactly what I was afraid of haha

I was a Tranny guy at a dealership for 15 years and I'd be the first to say why do you need all these speeds but the 8 speed just works awesome in my opinion.I don't think that there's any comparison as far as fuel mileage or performance. My truck with 3:21's comes out of the hole like 4:10's(bit of an exaggeration)and just loves to run the hyway at 80 mph.

The 8 speed surprised me in our 2018 V-6 Tradesman 1500 QC. It is a good match with this engine. Quick take off when you need it. Great match with the high RPM engine through hills and valleys. Around town we keep it in 5 or 6. 8 on the Hwy. Gas mileage is great.

Its not really an exaggeration though. The 8 speed has a much lower first gear, which essentially lowers the gear/crawl ratio (much like putting in lower axle gearing). Then, when you add in the fact that there are more gears and closer ratios throughout the gears, it just makes the truck float along so much better.

I agree!I just didn't want to get jumped on for false claims.I mentioned once that I felt that my 15 SLT 4x4 CC felt quicker than our Hemi police vehicles(which I still stand by)and got jumped on for saying it.I've driven lots of them.Same motor, different trans and different gears so not impossible.Obviously the top end goes to the cruiser being limited at different speeds.

Love the 5.7 / 8-speed / 3.92 combo in my '18! IMHO, that's one of the best transmissions on the market right now. Super smooth and always in the right gear.

8spd is fantastic. My wife’s 1500 is fracking awesome. I have drove 2 new hd with the 8spd and it’s equally as impressive. I really really hate my 6spd

Does the 8 speed keep searching for the right gear while cruising at highway speeds? Any input on how it reacts with 37s?

I just regeared my 1500 from 3.21s to 4.88s... in flat highway you will be fine with the 3.21s on 37s, but if do end up going uphill at all you will definitely feel it...

You will feel it searching for gears all day long... and you will be lucky if you see 5th gear on a highway with any uphill battle

If you have 35s go with 4.56s and 37s definitely 4.88s or higher
