In Synthetic Oil Thread owners were reporting good performance with Amsoil, but some had slippage with Red Line.

Don't recall reading anything about Valvoline.

I own a 66RFE trans, but like to keep up to date on newer components in event I upgrade.

Max life has been shown to be good in the zf8 and amsoil as well. Amsoil is all PAO. Another thats all PAO with a splash of ANs is HPL green cold climate ATF. Mobil 1 LV HP ATF looks to be a near perfect fit when compared to the lifeguard 8. It uses the same additive package as HPL but with GTL instead of PAO. Viscosity of the mobil 1 is only 0.1 cst off from lifeguard 8

There have been several threads on here with members using Valvoline MaxLife in their ZF 8 speeds, and IIRC, all had great results.

You can get 1 gallon of MaxLife for about the same price as 1 quart the Mopar OE fluid, so definately a good value.

That said, if I had a warranty of any kind, I would be inclined to use only OE fluid and parts, so as to keep the warranty in effect. Pretty sure warranty would be voided once the red MaxLife fluid is seen, even though it seems to meet the spec of the ZF fluid.

One member in particular has 5 or 600k miles on his rig using the MaxLife. I am extremely tempted to give it a go on my next service.
